For the past 50 or so years, orthodox treatment has more or less stayed the same with a very poor cure rate. Why? They only have Chemotherapy, Radiation, or Surgery and maybe a combination of the three to work with. Nattokinase, an enzyme extracted from fermented soy, may prevent the build up of certain plaques in the brain linked to Alzheimer’s, suggests new research from Taiwan.
The enzyme was found to be able to degrade amyloid fibrils that contribute to the formation of amyloid plaque that characterize Alzheimer’s disease, according to results of a lab study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
“The discovery of an enzyme which can be safely taken orally and can degrade amyloid fibrils could be very useful in the therapy of amyloid-related diseases,” wrote the researchers from Taiwan’s Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica, and the National Taiwan University.

Why do we get soft bones, lose our teeth and yet get calcified arteries, heart valves and cataracts as we age?
Have you ever wondered why we lose our teeth and get diseases like Osteoporosis, but at the same time can have calcification going on in soft tissues like the eyes, arteries, heart valves, and joints? This is also known as the calcium paradox.
Osteoporosis (OSS-tee-oh-pore-OH-sis) is a disease occurring mostly in older adults due to a loss of bone density and a breakdown of bone structure. The bones become porous, thin, and brittle. Osteoporosis is a major health problem in the U.S.
From a biochemical standpoint it is not that difficult to explain. As we get older we get out less and get a lot less sun, which produces vitamin D, and we also tend to move less, tending to get less exercise. Both of these issues affect calcium absorption and utilization.
There are other factors, too. Americans don't eat enough colorful fruits and vegetables which contain phytonutrients and alkalizing elements that have been shown to improve bone health.
As we age we don't digest or absorb nutrients as well as we did in our youth. After age 40, we begin to produce less hydrochloric acid in the stomach which is involved in digesting proteins and minerals out of foods we eat. Also, many people use drugs like Prilosec that stop the production of stomach acids in a bad attempt at stopping acid reflux disease.
Also, if you drink soda, which contains high levels of phosphorous, you will leach calcium from your bones. Dr. Michael Murray from the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine concluded, “It appears that increased soft drink consumption is a major factor that contributes to osteoporosis.” Furthermore, Dr. Elson Haas, author of The Detox Diet states, “Tooth loss, periodontal disease, and gingivitis can be problems, especially with a high phosphorus intake particularly from soft drinks.”
Americans eat a diet high in calcium and have been getting calcium tablets recommended to them for years as well thinking this was the problem. It didn't work because calcium in the diet is not the main issue. It is the lack of digestion, high consumption of phosphorus, as well as nutrient deficiencies like D3, C, K2, magnesium, Boron, B-6, B-12, etc, that are the main culprits.
Recent research is telling us that 70% of Americans, especially in the north, are vitamin D deficient. Low magnesium levels are found in roughly 40% to 60% of the population, not to mention boron, B-12, B-6, and K2. All these nutrients are involved in making calcium work properly in the body. Without them calcium goes where it shouldn't, the soft tissues, and does not get placed in the bones where it belongs. Also, trace minerals like copper, manganese, and zinc play a role in calcium absorption.
As a way to support this issue I have formulated 2 products.

How much calcium do we really need? And how should we get it? The dairy companies are continually urging us to consume more of their product, implying that this will help prevent osteoporosis (thin bones) and the consequent hip fractures. But are dairy products actually effective in preventing fractures?
Unfortunately for the dairy companies, there is little compelling evidence that milk consumption in the usual quantities really decreases the risk of breaking a bone. It seems that drinking another glass or two of ordinary milk each day is unlikely to help. So what does help?
THE NURSES’ STUDY...Probably the best study to date on this topic is that of Professor Walter Willett of the Harvard Medical School, who has studied 72,000 American nurses for eighteen years1. His researchers' regularly recorded the women’s diet, and their nutritional supplement use, over the course of the study and noted the number of post-menopausal hip fractures that they suffered. Statistical analysis of the data showed that there was no significant relationship between the number of hip fractures and the amount of milk that they consumed. In other words, more milk did not help. The same study also found that calcium supplements averaging 400 to 500 milligrams per day were without detectable effect on the rate of hip fracture in these women, who were consuming typical American diets.

Is this good for me? Is this bad for me? It usually depends...
I often get asked the question "Is this good for me?" It comes in many forms like, is milk good for me, or are carbs bad, or should I stop drinking coffee, or are fruit juices healthy?
The answer to these questions is always the same. It depends!
Usually if things are taken in moderation they will not be that bad no matter what they are, but one person's moderation is another's over indulgence. What does moderation look like?
Carbohydrates for example are not essential for health except for the phytonutrients (colors in foods and drinks) and perhaps the fiber, if they are not refined so much as to remove them all.
Your body can get all the energy it needs from proteins and fats that are consumed in the diet.
If you are a starving child in China, India, or Africa though, then simple carbs like rice and bread keep you from starving by storing fat around the tummy to be used as energy when there is no food to eat. For the average American, simple carbs are not needed and contribute the most to obesity, type 2 diabetes, etc. Why? Because we have an abundance of food on a daily basis. We also have an abundance of belly fat, as Americans are among the fattest people on earth. Problem is we don't need them to keep from starving to death. Simple carbs, or high glycemic foods and drinks, cause you to overeat. I recommend limiting them to 45 grams per day for ideal health. Read the book Life Without Bread.
An orange is healthy, but a large glass of orange juice is too concentrated in sugar and would be like eating 5 to 6 oranges at one sitting. Then if you add that glass of orange juice to a big bacon and eggs breakfast with potatoes and toast, well, you can see that is way too many calories and the combination is a formula for acid reflux disease. There is no good reason for soda pop at all.
Milk is not needed by the body after we are weaned. It is very processed and is a dead food. Many people are genetically deficient in lactase, an enzyme that is required to digest milk. So here it really depends on your genetics, but in general, I see know value in it. On the other hand, fermented dairy like hard cheeses, yogurts, or cottage cheese, are well tolerated by most. In the case of yogurt though, plain with a little fruit is fine. Commercial yogurts are extremely high in sugars, both natural and added.
Coffee studies show that it is neither good nor bad for most people, but when I evaluate people, I often tell them it is not good for them for many reasons. Others I see no reason why they can't drink it in moderation. I can argue though that green tea is much better for overwhelming reasons.
Bottom line usually comes down to this. Could a hunter gatherer find this food in nature?
Since these people historically have the best health, the closer you adopt your diet and habits to their eating habits the better you will do, because we are genetically designed to eat that way.

The answer to these questions is always the same. It depends!
Usually if things are taken in moderation they will not be that bad no matter what they are, but one person's moderation is another's over indulgence. What does moderation look like?
Carbohydrates for example are not essential for health except for the phytonutrients (colors in foods and drinks) and perhaps the fiber, if they are not refined so much as to remove them all.
Your body can get all the energy it needs from proteins and fats that are consumed in the diet.
If you are a starving child in China, India, or Africa though, then simple carbs like rice and bread keep you from starving by storing fat around the tummy to be used as energy when there is no food to eat. For the average American, simple carbs are not needed and contribute the most to obesity, type 2 diabetes, etc. Why? Because we have an abundance of food on a daily basis. We also have an abundance of belly fat, as Americans are among the fattest people on earth. Problem is we don't need them to keep from starving to death. Simple carbs, or high glycemic foods and drinks, cause you to overeat. I recommend limiting them to 45 grams per day for ideal health. Read the book Life Without Bread.
An orange is healthy, but a large glass of orange juice is too concentrated in sugar and would be like eating 5 to 6 oranges at one sitting. Then if you add that glass of orange juice to a big bacon and eggs breakfast with potatoes and toast, well, you can see that is way too many calories and the combination is a formula for acid reflux disease. There is no good reason for soda pop at all.
Milk is not needed by the body after we are weaned. It is very processed and is a dead food. Many people are genetically deficient in lactase, an enzyme that is required to digest milk. So here it really depends on your genetics, but in general, I see know value in it. On the other hand, fermented dairy like hard cheeses, yogurts, or cottage cheese, are well tolerated by most. In the case of yogurt though, plain with a little fruit is fine. Commercial yogurts are extremely high in sugars, both natural and added.
Coffee studies show that it is neither good nor bad for most people, but when I evaluate people, I often tell them it is not good for them for many reasons. Others I see no reason why they can't drink it in moderation. I can argue though that green tea is much better for overwhelming reasons.
Bottom line usually comes down to this. Could a hunter gatherer find this food in nature?
Since these people historically have the best health, the closer you adopt your diet and habits to their eating habits the better you will do, because we are genetically designed to eat that way.

Some scientists estimate that an average person has 1000 times the amount of lead in their bones today than would be normal just 100 years ago. Who can you trust to protect your health?
Today I am devoting my blog to the study of aging and how treating and understanding what causes us to age can be the best way to prevent and reverse chronic disease. This is what I focus all of my attention on these days. Reading my blogs and watching the videos I highlight is the best way for YOU to stay healthy and disease free as you age.
Who do you trust to protect your health and well being.
Is it the FDA? Oh please, they are here to protect the health and well being of the pharmaceutical companies, not you. FDA attempting to regulate supplements, herbs, and juices as "drugs"
Do you rely on Conventional Medicine? I hope not. While emergency medical and surgical care is great if you get in a car accident or break your leg, statistics show that when they treat you for chronic diseases, you open yourself up to the 3rd leading cause of death in America, iatrogenocide.

How about the media? Do you rely on the daily news to tell you the truth about what's good for you and what's not? I study news reports all the time and very often they only report things that they sensationalize and seldom do they get their information or analyses correct. Often, their conclusions are misleading at best. Take them with a big grain of salt.
While I devote HealthBlogger to the theme of... News and commentary on health, wellness, and anti-aging nutrition... My mission statement is to educate people of the latest studies and nutraceuticals that can slow down and reverse, to some degree, aging and ill health.
Today I have included videos and studies that point us in the right direction to better health and longevity. As you will see, people who live beyond 100 eat a varying diet. Some are religious and some are not, some eat lots of meat and some don't. There are some common factors though. They all get lots of sun and therefore vitamin D3, they consume green tea or red wine, which contain powerful nutraceuticals that turn bad genes off and good genes on. They eat foods with lots of bright colors and don't eat refined foods and trans fats. And many avoid doctors and modern medicine altogether.
Lately, I have been recommending people take a look at a newly designed multi that has all the nutraceuticals that have been shown to effect aging, as a low cost way to make sure you are covering all the bases and recommending the Ideal Diet, one that keeps inflammation down to a minimum and promotes good health.

Supplements can make a big difference...
When I write and publish HealthBlogger, my goal is to teach people a balance between dietary changes and supplementation. I read a ton of studies every week and often a dietary change shows an improvement of perhaps 6 months to a few years in overall length of life. Adding supplements often takes this to a much higher level.
For example, a study showed that if Americans just added 300 mgs of vitamin C to whatever they were doing diet-wise, men could add 6 years to their life and perhaps 2 years or more for women. Linus Pauling died at 93 and felt vitamin C added 20 years to his life span. He recommended taking 3200 mgs to 12,000 mgs per day and he took 18,000 mgs himself. Why would a simple supplement add this much to life span numbers? Because we don't produce ascorbic acid in our livers as we should because of an enzyme we and a few other animals lack. It is a missing chemical needed for ideal health. Getting enough from diet, other than to prevent scurvy, is almost impossible with today's dietary habits, especially if you are under stress. Are you under stress? Who isn't these days?
Other phytonutrients like Resveratrol and vitamin D3 affect our genes by turning good ones on and bad ones off. They can create improvements in disease prevention by as much as 70 to 95%, much more than diet alone can do.
Another supplement that I often put in the amazing category is Nattokinase. Considered a clot buster, it is an enzyme that keeps blood from developing clots and can remove them in as little as 24 to 36 hours. Medical authorities say that perhaps as many as 90% of all fatal heart attacks and strokes are caused by clots that form due to platelet aggregation. You can take drugs like aspirin and others that can have an effect on reducing them, but with a potential for negative side effects like internal bleeding and excessive bruising.
Nattokinase studies show it is effective and has little or no side effects or concerns.
