Resveratrol - If you take only one supplement, perhaps this is the one!!!

Resveratrol, a phytonutrient that is found in the skins of red wine has been in the news lately. It is the most exciting nutrient I have ever studied, right up there with Green Tea Extract, Curcumin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnitine and Grape Seed Extract. Studies show that somewhere between 25 mgs to 300 mgs per day may have profound effects on reducing aging and the diseases that are associated with it. Resveratrol literally turns on 2 genes that are associated with longevity. When given to middle aged mice, and continued till death, Resveratrol dramatically increased life span, energy and decreased age related illnesses.
Perhaps, if I could only take one supplement, Resveratrol would be it.

Red Wine's Resveratrol May Help Battle Obesity...
Resveratrol, a compound present in grapes and red wine, reduces the number of fat cells and may one day be used to treat or prevent obesity, according to a new study. In the cell-based study, they found that resveratrol inhibited the pre-fat cells from increasing and prevented them from converting into mature fat cells. Also, resveratrol hindered fat storage. Most interesting, according to Fischer-Posovszky, was that resveratrol reduced production of certain cytokines (interleukins 6 and 8), substances that may be linked to the development of obesity-related disorders, such as diabetes and clogged coronary arteries. Also, resveratrol stimulated formation of a protein known to decrease the risk of heart attack. Obesity decreases this substance, called adiponectin.

Resveratrol, the phytonutrient in red wine, doubles exercise endurance in animal research ...
A drug based on resveratrol -- a phytonutrient found in red wine -- may double exercise endurance, fight obesity and prolong life, according to a new study by French researchers. The resveratrol mice were also found to have energy-charged muscles and a lower heart rate, much like trained athletes. "Resveratrol makes you look like a trained athlete without the training," Auwerx said. Previous studies of mice have indicated that moderate-to-high doses of resveratrol can activate a genetic mechanism that protects against the degenerative diseases of aging, as well as prolong life span by up to 30 percent.

Grape Compound Aids Cancer Chemotherapy, Study Says...
A compound found in grapes and grape products such as red wine shows natural cancer-fighting properties that might be important in preventing or treating the illness, according to scientists at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Scientists found that trans-Resveratrol, or Res, apparently helps turn off a protein in the body that prevents cancer cells from being killed, as they should. The protein, called NF-kappa B, attaches to DNA inside cell nuclei and turns genes on and off like a switch.

Resveratrol: Clinical and Anti-Aging Benefits...
The more we learn about resveratrol and its wide-ranging benefits in life-threatening diseases, the better it looks in terms of its preventive and therapeutic benefits—and overwhelming record of safety. Although optimum dosages of resveratrol for humans have not been definitively determined, based on our present state of knowledge, reasonable dosages for humans appear to be in the range of 1 to 10 mg per day for preventive and anti-aging purposes, and 10 to 100 mg per day for therapeutic purposes, with the higher doses recommended as an adjunctive part of a comprehensive anti-cancer regimen.

Resveratrol May Be a Longevity Molecule...
There is growing evidence that resveratrol has cardioprotective effects through a variety of mechanisms: it inhibits platelet aggregation, the proliferation of smooth-muscle cells, and the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol (probably through its strong antioxidant effects); it reduces the synthesis of certain lipids and eicosanoids that tend to promote atherosclerosis; and it suppresses certain cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). Some of these effects may be due in part to resveratrol’s being a phytoestrogen, i.e., a plant compound that has biological activities similar to those of estrogens.1
Furthermore, resveratrol has demonstrated anticarcinogenic activity: it inhibits cellular events associated with the initiation, promotion, and progression of tumors through a wide range of actions that are still poorly understood. It appears to help detoxify carcinogens, to inhibit the synthesis of various cancer-related compounds, and to stimulate the genetic mechanism for the apoptosis (programmed death) of cancer cells.

Substance In Red Wine, Resveratrol, Found To Keep Hearts Young...
How, scientists wonder, do the French get away with a clean bill of heart health despite a diet loaded with saturated fats? Writing June 3 in the online, open-access journal Public Library of Science One, the researchers report that low doses of resveratrol in the diet of middle-aged mice has a widespread influence on the genetic levers of aging and may confer special protection on the heart.

Chemical In Red Wine, Fruits And Vegetables May Stop Cancer, Heart Disease, Depending On The Dose...
The next cancer drug might come straight from the grocery store, according to new research published in the November 2007 issue of The FASEB Journal. In the study, French scientists describe how high and low doses of polyphenols have different effects. Most notably, they found that very high doses of antioxidant polyphenols shut down and prevent cancerous tumors by cutting off the formation of new blood vessels needed for tumor growth. Polyphenols are commonly found in red wine, fruits, vegetables, and green tea.

Growing Evidence Links Resveratrol to Extended Life Span...
Based on his study of experimental life-span extension in mice,45 Dr. Richard A. Miller of the University of Michigan suggests that resveratrol may extend the human life span.
Dr. Miller speculates that with effects similar to those of caloric restriction, resveratrol could extend human longevity to about 112 or even 140 years of healthy life.

What Dose of Resveratrol Should Humans Take?...
Resveratrol and grape extract produce strongly similar effects, based on the gene-expression responses demonstrated in mice fed a relatively low dose of these compounds. Comparison of these groups with calorie-restricted mice shows a significant overlap in the three treatments’ regulation of similar biological pathways. These data add to the accumulating evidence that resveratrol triggers a biological response in mammals that is similar to that observed with caloric restriction, an intervention that is known to extend life span and protect against age-related diseases.2-5 These effects are observed even at a relatively low dose of resveratrol, indicating that a human-equivalent dose can be obtained through dietary supplementation with high-quality resveratrol products.

The incredibly deceptive egg beaters campaign...

Food manufacturers are hilarious. In the beginning came the egg. Then came the great (drug company induced) cholesterol scare (farce). As is always the case, food manufacturers came in to save the day (make profits), and produce the first healthy egg (substitute). Chickens of coarse were shocked and dismayed, but just went back to what ever chickens do, but I will come to there defense.
Based upon your fears about high cholesterol, you were told that eating an egg with the yoke, was not the way to go. No, to be healthy, you must now eat a processed food that has the yoke removed. Presto, many of you bought into this, and why not, doctors recommended it, so it has to be correct, right.
It might be a good time to remind all of you of the 3rd leading cause of death in this country. Doctors... or what's called Iatrogenic disorder. There are over a quarter million doctor induced deaths annually, you might call it, Iatrogenocide?
What is the meaning of the word Iatrogenic: An iatrogenic disorder is a condition caused by medical personnel or procedures or through exposure to the environment of a health care facility, including fears instilled in patients by remarks or questions of examining physicians. ~Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 5th Edition, 1998...

But not to worry, now the makers of this substitute product just made it even better. How did they do it? Why, by adding back some of the yoke, of coarse.
It's called Egg Beaters with Yoke...
Now it just has a little yoke, the right amount, just for you, but watch, in a few years, they will add it all back, to make it even better and we will be back to what we had all along. The perfect food.

You might say the YOKE is on us!!!

Here are some great links to teach you the real story of the egg, one of best sources of protein, lutein (an important yellow pigment that is a phytonutrient that protects your eyes) (only with the yoke) and a great source of all sorts of nutrients.

cw

Eggs - Good for your body...
Dr. Lam: The egg's image as a wholesome food has been tarnished in recent years, ever since a link was established between high blood cholesterol level and high incidence of cardiovascular disease . Egg is a rich source of dietary cholesterol and it is labeled as a "bad food" . Many have resorted to eating just the egg white to avoid the implications of heart disease, while others have rejected the intake of eggs altogether as a prescription to well being.
Contrary to popular belief that the egg is something to avoid, numerous research and long term studies have shown that eggs are a great dietary source of many fundamental (e.g. protein, choline, cholesterol) and non-fundamental (e.g. lutein, zeaxanthin) components that are essential for optimal health. In fact, many in the fore-front of anti-aging research believe that moderate egg consumption of one per day should be an integral part of a complete anti-aging diet.

Eggs: The worlds healthiest foods...
Eggs are available year round to provide not only delicious meals on their own but as an essential ingredient for the many baked goods and sauces that would never be the same without them.
Composed of a yellow yolk and translucent white surrounded by a protective shell, the incredible nature of the egg is partially found in their unique food chemistry which allows them help in coagulation, foaming, emulsification and browning.
Eggs are a good source of low-cost high-quality protein, providing 5.5 grams of protein (11.1% of the daily value for protein) in one egg for a caloric cost of only 68 calories. The structure of humans and animals is built on protein. We rely on animal and vegetable protein for our supply of amino acids, and then our bodies rearrange the nitrogen to create the pattern of amino acids we require.

Fucoxanthin, a weight loss product I can actually recommend...

One of the best ways to lose body fat is by a process called Thermogenesis. Thermogenesis, is a process where heat production is increased in a way that primarily causes the body to want to burn body fat as it's preferred form of fuel. This is a bit technical, but here goes. Fucoxanthin, a caratenoid from a specific form of sea weed, increases the expression of UCP1 in white adipose tissue (WAT). WAT is the type of fat predominantly found around the belly of adults and behind the neck.
Uncoupling proteins (UCPs) are mitochondrial transporters present in cell’s inner membranes. Fucuxanthin up-regulates the expression of UCP1 in WAT, increasing heat (thermogenesis), thereby contributing to reduced WAT weight.
This stimulated oxidation reduces fat in all mammals.

Here are the preliminary results from a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial using a product that contained fucuxanthin.
Using 140 overweight female subjects and putting them on this product, they found a significant reduction in visceral fat and body weight after just 16 weeks of use.
Study participants lost an average of 14.5 pounds of body weight – versus only 3 pounds in the placebo group.

In another study, body fat loss was 11.8 pounds in the fucoxanthin group, compared to just 2.8 pounds in the placebo group.
Study participants experience a metabolic rate 18.2% higher than with diet alone.
Clinical studies and a long history of use of brown sea vegetables as food show no significant adverse effects and no nervousness as some herbs like ephedra have shown. You just take 1 capsule 30 to 60 minutes before meals every day. I recommend adding one other powerhouse supplement to speed up mitochondria function and to increase the burning of fat as energy. That product is called Mitochondria Booster. Together, along with a low glycemic lifestyle program, fat lose can be achieved long term and continuously until the desired results are met.
As with all programs designed to lose body fat, I recommend some form of exercise each week, especially walking an hour, at least every other day or two or 1/2 hour a day if you can.

cw

Here are the details, just click on the link...

Research shows how a new plant extract safely reduces body fat while lowering vascular and inflammatory disease risk factors...
A novel carotenoid can do something scientists had long thought was impossible—trigger the burning (or thermogenesis) of white body fat—without producing stimulatory effects. In addition to inducing significant weight loss in human study subjects, this plant extract has been shown to improve blood markers associated with vascular and inflammatory disorders.
Why is burning white body fat so critical? Because new studies show there is a significant decrease in resting energy expenditure as humans age. If you’ve ever wondered why diet and exercise so often fails to produce meaningful weight loss, scientific research shows that with normal aging, metabolism slows significantly, while white body fat mass increases.

Recommended program for a 1 month supply...

Take 1 capsule 3 times a day 30 to 60 minutes before a meal.

The fats you consume are the key to inflammation and depression...

When it comes to essential fatty acids, balance is key to ideal health. We should have a 1 to 1 ratio of omega 3's to omega 6's. Omega 3's are anti inflammatory and omega 6's are pro inflammatory. Eating a diet high in grains, package foods and cooking with vegetable oils like corn oil, increase your omega 6's. Eating cold water fish, or flax seeds, increase your omega 3's. The problem is cold water fish like salmon, today have high amounts of mercury, a heavy metal or they are farm raised with lower levels of the healthy fats we need. Flax seeds have omega 3's but they have lower bioavailability than fish oils have. I like molecularly processed fish oils that come from small cold water fish like sardines. This special processing removes any contaminates and gives you concentrated EPA and DHA, the most important essential fatty acids for ideal health. If you want to lower inflammation and improve depression, cardiovascular health, and lower your potential for certain cancers, lower your levels of grains, and package foods and use extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil primarily for cooking and for salads.

cw

Omega-6 fatty acids found to be dietary cause of depression, heart disease ...
Researchers found a correlation between a higher omega-6-to-omega-3 blood ratio and the occurrence of depression, as well as the occurrence of inflammation-promoting compounds in the blood, according to a small study published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine.Researchers from Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus looked at fatty acid intake, inflammation and depression levels in 43 senior citizens. Six of the participants were found to meet the criteria for major depression. These six participants had a significantly higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids than the participants who were not depressed, an average of 18:1 compared with 13:1.

Typical North American Diet Is Deficient In Omega-3 Fatty Acids...
New research from the Child & Family Research Institute shows the typical North American diet of eating lots of meat and not much fish is deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and this may pose a risk to infant neurological development. Omega-3 fatty acids are unsaturated fats found in some fish such as salmon and herring and in smaller amounts in eggs and chicken. This discovery is an important step towards developing dietary fat guidelines for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Current dietary recommendations evolved from the 1950's emphasis on reducing saturated fat intake to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Anti-inflammatory Effects Of Omega 3 Fatty Acid In Fish Oil Linked To Lowering Of Prostaglandin...
Omega 3 fatty acids in dietary fish oil are reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombogenic and anti-arrhythmic effects in humans, but the biochemical basis for these beneficial health effects is not well understood. Now a University of Michigan biochemist reports that fish oil significantly diminishes the production and effectiveness of various prostaglandins, naturally occurring hormone-like substances that can accentuate inflammation and thrombosis.

Fatty Fish Protects Against Cancer...
If you want to avoid cancer of the kidneys, a new major study from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden shows that eating salmon or other kinds of fatty fish a few times a month would be one good way to go about it. At the end of the 1980s, 90,000 Swedish women were sent a questionnaire on their dietary habits in connection with their mammography scan. Now, with the help of another questionnaire a decade later and the cancer registry, scientists at Karolinska Institutet have concluded that women who eat fatty fish gain significant protection against renal cancer.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: A Way To Improve Heart Health...
While a heart-healthy diet has become synonymous with plenty of fruits and vegetables and little fat and cholesterol, there’s more to the story. Omega-3 fatty acids should be part of a heart-healthy diet, too, according to the August issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter. Omega-3 fatty acids are a form of polyunsaturated fat important to overall health. As it pertains to heart disease, their main benefit is their ability to reduce the risk of heart rhythm problems in certain groups of people, thus reducing the risk of sudden cardiac death. In addition, omega-3s may help reduce triglycerides, lower blood pressure slightly and reduce blood clotting.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Prevent Heart Disease By Improving Arterial Elasticity...
Eating fish benefits those who are at high risk for ischemic heart disease (IHD), and sudden cardiac deaths occur less frequently in those who habitually eat ocean fish, a major source of omega-3 fatty acids. In a new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Nestel et al. examined the role that omega-3 fatty acids play in improving systolic and pulse pressure and vascular resistance, effects that may reduce the risk of IHD and adverse cardiac events.

Pomegranate juice & extract has amazing health properties...but how should you take them?

There is no question that the phytonutrients in fruits such as pomegranate, blue berries, raspberries, red grapes (resveratrol), mangosteen, blackberries, and other compounds like green tea, turmeric, pine bark, grape seed extract, have amazing anti-oxidant properties, but the fad today is to get many of these in the form of sweet sugary drinks. I do not recommend this. Eat the whole fruit, or herb, or take them in juice form, as long as it does not contain added sugar. Because the average diet is so high in sugar, our taste buds are tainted, and we like foods and drinks that are unnaturally sweet. A recent study showed that when children were offered pure orange juice or a popular orange drink, high in sugar, they always preferred the orange drink. Get these compounds in real fruits, vegetables, herbs or in capsule form, where they are concentrated and standardized to have high amounts of what were looking for, without the things that bring our health down.

Anti-inflammatory Effects Of Pomegranate In Rabbits: A Potential Treatment In Humans?...
Oral ingestion of pomegranate extract reduces the production of chemicals that cause inflammation suggests a new study. The findings indicate that pomegranate extract may provide humans with relief of chronic inflammatory conditions.

Can Pomegranates Prevent Prostate Cancer? A New Study Offers Promise...
The juice of the pomegranate, say researchers at University of Wisconsin Medical School, shows major promise to combat prostate cancer - the most common invasive cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. With more than 230,000 new cases of prostate cancer expected to be diagnosed this year alone in the U.S. and the outlook poor for patients with metastatic disease, researchers are looking for new strategies to combat the disease. Earlier research at Wisconsin and elsewhere has shown that the pomegranate, a fruit native to the Middle East, is rich in anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and is effective against tumors in mouse skin. In fact, pomegranate juice has higher anti-oxidant activity than do red wine and green tea, both of which appear promising as anti-cancer agents.

Pomegranate Juice May Help Fight Lung Cancer...
Researchers are adding to the list of cancer types for which pomegranates seem to halt growth. A recent study using a mouse model shows that consuming pomegranates could potentially help reduce the growth and spread of lung cancer cells or even prevent lung cancer from developing. In a recent issue of Cancer Research, researchers led by Hasan Mukhtar, co-leader of the Cancer Chemoprevention Program of the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, demonstrate that drinking pomegranate fruit extract helps slow the growth of lung cancer in mice.

Pomegranate Fruit Shown To Slow Cartilage Deterioration In Osteoarthritis...
Pomegranate fruit extracts can block enzymes that contribute to osteoarthritis according to a Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine study published in the September 2005 issue of the Journal of Nutrition. The study looked at the ability of an extract of pomegranate fruit against Interleukin-1b (IL-1b), a pro-inflammatory protein molecule that plays a key role in cartilage degradation in osteoarthritis. Current treatments for osteoarthritis, which affects 20 million people nationwide, according to the National Institutes of Health, offer limited effectiveness and do little to slow joint destruction and disease progression.

Pomegranate Juice: Tart, Trendy, And Targeted On Prostate Cancer Cells...
Researchers in California are reporting new evidence explaining pomegranate juice's mysterious beneficial effects in fighting prostate cancer. In a new study scientists have found that the tart, trendy beverage also uses a search-and-destroy strategy to target prostate cancer cells.
In previous research, Seeram's group found that pomegranate juice consumption had a beneficial effect for prostate cancer patients with rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. Such increases in PSA signal that the cancer is progressing, "doubling time" a key indicator of prognosis. Men whose PSA levels double in a short period are more likely to die from their cancer. Pomegranate juice increased doubling times by almost fourfold.

Flip the right switch to lose body fat...

If you are reading this blog and looking to lose weight, especially stored fat around your belly, listen up. I am going to simplify everything for you by explaining foods as switches, that you can turn on or off. It’s always your choice which way you flip the switch, you need to know that. It’s really very simple. First a little detail on foods and some nutritional facts, so you can understand how the switches work.

The most important element in our diets is protein.
The word protein literally means, of first importance. There are 22 amino acids, 12 of which are considered essential for health.
The next most important are fats or essential fatty acids, 3 of which are essential for life.
Next comes carbohydrates, which are not essential, you can live without them. Recently, the Glycemic Index (GI) has become the benchmark for classifying carbohydrates. The glycemic index is a measure of how rapidly a particular food causes blood sugar to rise, compared with glucose. Foods are divided into high, medium or low glycemic index foods. The glycemic index is a new system for classifying carbohydrate-containing foods, according to how fast they raise blood-glucose levels inside the body. In simple terms, a food with a higher glycemic value raises blood glucose faster and is less beneficial to blood-sugar control than a food which scores lower. In this group, there are carbohydrates that are important for ideal health, and I will break them down.

The cultures that eat the most fruits and vegetables and lean meats have the lowest chronic disease. This is due to phytonutrients, the colors or pigments in these foods, and the antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and especially trace elements they contain as well as fiber. Fruits and vegetables are for the most part considered low glycemic foods, except for starches like potatoes, rice, bananas, etc.    Also the carbohydrate family includes, nuts, breads, grains, cereals and legumes. With the exception of legumes, like lentels, beans, and nuts (high in protein and good fats), most breads, grains and cereals tend to be high on the
glycemic index, which means they tend to raise blood sugar abnormally high. Two exceptions to this may be whole rye and whole barley, if they are not GMO, and in the case of rye, not gluten intolerant.

What you need to know is this. As genetic switches, proteins like meat, fish, foul, dairy and eggs, lower your appetite and tells the body to produce
Glucagon, a hormone that signals the body to burn stored sugar and fat. High glycemic carbs, as described above, increase your appetite and tells the body to produce Insulin, which signals the body to store sugar and fat, for a rainy day. Belly fat is what occurs when you consume too much in the way of high glycemic foods on a daily basis. Fats are neutral, they don’t signal any hormone and for the most part, they lower your appetite, by keeping you full longer.

So if you want to lose body fat, eat 3 meals a day that contain a combination of proteins, fats, vegetables and a little fruit and eat at least 3 protein snacks between meals to signal sugar and fat burn. If you eat high gycemic foods as snacks, you are signaling the body to store sugar and fats, and you will gradually gain weight, unless you are extremely active, and even then I see lots of active people with belly fat they can't remove. They need to flip the right switch.

If your weight is normal I recommend The Paleo Diet
.

If you need to lose weight try Forever Changes Weight-Loss and Longevity Lifestyle Program, a do it yourself diet which factors in all the above priciples for you and makes it easy to do, Paleo follower or not.

Children With Healthier Diets Do Better In School, Study Suggests…
A new study in the Journal of School Health reveals that children with healthy diets perform better in school than children with unhealthy diets. Students with an increased fruit and vegetable intake and less caloric intake from fat were significantly less likely to fail the literacy assessment. Relative to students in the group with the lowest DQI-I scores, students in the group with the best scores were 41 % less likely to fail the literacy assessment.

Cut Down on Sugar and Carbohydrates to Improve Health…
Have you ever eaten a big meal and then felt really hungry an hour later? You may feel like you never want to eat again, only to be feeling like you need a snack a short while later. You may find that it is often carbohydrate foods you are dreaming of, like bread, pasta, biscuits, or sugar. This is probably a sign that your body is experiencing fluctuating blood sugar levels. When your body is continually in this state for long periods of time, it can lead to diabetes, obesity, depression, and a whole range of other health issues. In fact, fluctuating blood sugar levels is the number one sign of aging.

Cinnamon and Chromium Counteract the Metabolic Syndrome...
If you own a dog or a cat, you probably love your furry friend dearly and consider it to be as much a member of the family as anyone else. Naturally, you want the best for your pet so as to ensure a long, healthy, happy life. Now suppose your veterinarian told you about a disease that could seriously undermine your pet’s health and increase the chances of its premature demise. And suppose the vet mentioned that the signs and symptoms of this disease were the same as those of a deficiency in a certain nutrient in your pet’s diet. What would you do?
Silly question. You would, of course, make sure that Fido or Fluffy got adequate amounts of that nutrient. But would you show as much concern for your own health as that of your beloved pet? Oddly, many people don’t. While lavishing care on their pets (and their kids, of course), they give themselves short shrift in the health department. Their concern for others at the expense of their own well-being may seem noble to some, but it’s unnecessary and ultimately foolish.
What would it take to get their attention? Perhaps a statement such as the following, by Dr. Richard A. Anderson, a research chemist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, MD:1
"The signs and symptoms of Cr [chromium] deficiency are the same as those for the metabolic syndrome, i.e. elevated fasting glucose [blood sugar], elevated TAG [triacylglycerols, aka triglycerides, or fats], low HDL [high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the “good cholesterol”], hypertension, and visceral obesity. The hallmark sign of Cr deficiency is impaired glucose tolerance, and there have been numerous reports of beneficial effects on individuals with impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes".

New Research on the Health Benefits of Green Tea...
In laboratories around the globe, green tea is sparking tremendous excitement as new health applications keep being discovered.
The most active green tea constituent is called epigallocatechin gallate. This unique flavonoid favorably alters pathways underlying pathological processes such as cancer,1-4 cardiovascular disease,5,6 diabetes,7 obesity,8 and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.9-11 All of this points to green tea as a broad-spectrum nutrient that may promote long life.4,12
Green tea is consumed routinely in Asian populations, who have greater longevity and lower mortality rates for diseases that are prevalent in Western society.
Given the huge scientific literature supporting the positive role of green tea in preventing neurodegenerative diseases, not to mention its benefits in helping to prevent cancer and other diseases, as well as its lack of toxicity, there is ample reason for consuming green tea poly-phenols on a regular basis.
In this article, we have interviewed international scientists on their current research into the myriad life-extending and life-enhancing benefits of green tea.

Are You Destined for Diabetes?...
What is diabetes? Diabetes is a chronic health problem stemming from elevated blood sugar. The body’s metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats lead directly to the production of glucose, otherwise known as blood sugar. Glucose is needed to supply energy to every cell in the body. If glucose levels become too elevated, it presents a toxic danger to every organ in the body.In the case of type 1 diabetes, the person experiences a deficiency of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas that transports glucose into cells. In the case of type 2 diabetes, the cells are resistant to insulin, blocking the blood sugar’s entry into the cells. This type of diabetes, often referred to as “adult-onset diabetes”, is actually growing at alarming rates among children, who also reflect a growing obesity epidemic. While children were once only associated with type 1 diabetes, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) now estimates that up to 45% of newly diagnosed children and teens have type 2 diabetes. The Center for Disease Control predicts that at least one out of every three Americans born after 2000 will develop diabetes.

Would you like to grow old gracefully and perhaps live mostly disease free?

Master anti-aging, gene expression modulating, and disease prevention program…
Developed by Christopher Wiechert, C.N.C.

A few months back I read a study that created a major paradigm shift in my approach to programs dealing with health and wellness, disease prevention and reversal. When it comes to issues like obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, alzheimer etc, many medical authorities blame genes for these health problems, and don't realize that foods and nutrients have profound effects on whether these bad genes are turned on or off. The new biology of Epigenetics tells us that while we inherit genes from our parent’s, we can be in control of whether these genes are switched on or off and therefore, whether we grow old gracefully with little or no disease or die prematurely. Here is that study…

”Researchers from Finland took two groups of people with metabolic syndrome and gave each group a different diet. The diet differed in what type of carbohydrates they consumed for the 12 week study. The rest of their diet was identical. They contained the same calories and the same amount of fat, protein, carbohydrate, and fiber. The first group had wheat, oats, and potatoes as the source of their carbs. The second group ate rye as their source of carbohydrate. Rye has some very special properties. It is slowly absorbed by the body and has phytonutrients that help you lose weight and improve metabolism. After the 12 weeks, the researchers took a fat sample and analyzed it to find out which genes were turned on or off. So what happened? In the wheat, oat, and potato group, 62 genes were activated that increased inflammation, oxidative stress, and the stress response, worsened blood sugar balance, and generally amplified all of the forces in the body that lead to obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease!
No good genes were turned on. In the rye group, 71 genes were turned on that prevent diabetes, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and improve blood sugar control. In both cases, the genes that were turned on and off were 100% effective.”
In other words, these foods were either anti-inflammatory or pro-inflammatory in nature. This also holds true for good fats and bad fats. Vegetable oils are pro-inflammatory and fish oils are anti-inflammatory.

The key to disease prevention lies in what you eat and what supplements you decide to take. The sooner you do this the better, but now would be good.

DNA repair is crucial in all diseases. A master DNA repair agent would virtually wipe out most age-related diseases. I have been extensively researching a number of powerful phytonutrients that alter gene expression and ultimately turn on good genes and turn the bad ones off. In 30 years of doing life extension research and developing programs for my clients, and myself I am most excited about this one. I have been taking these compounds myself and have noticed major improvements, which for me is quite amazing. Just 1 phytonutrient in this program appears to fit that description since it has been shown, though admittedly in lab dish and animal studies only, to quell diabetes and heart disease, raise “good” HDL cholesterol, inhibit blood clots, stop viral replication, rejuvenate organs like the kidneys and liver, block cancer at every stage of development, cleanse brain tissues of amyloid plaques believed to be responsible for Alzheimer’s disease, and prevent damage caused by a lack of oxygenation to brain and heart tissues (strokes and heart attacks). Mice on this compound lost weight due to increased fat burning, and this was attributed to an increase in the number and function of mitochondria, the part of the cell that creates energy and metabolically burns fat. Mice treated with this compound also exhibited improved insulin sensitivity and an increased metabolic rate. Notably, mice showed a doubling in exercise endurance. All of these effects are achieved without toxicity.

Also included in this program are all the elements together in a multi that I have found to have profound anti-aging and disease protective properties like 4,000 IU’s a day of D3, with it’s miracle-class ability to halt cancer (77% of ALL cancers are prevented by vitamin D alone!), to ease depression, boost bone health, enhance heart health and much, much more. It's the single most impressive vitamin I've ever found. No other vitamin is as important as D in terms of the number of important health benefits derived from a single substance. It turns good genes on and bad ones off. Next comes omega-3 fatty acids, which have proven to be miraculous, too, in terms of preventing cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, depression and much more.

To give you more proof, here are some excerpts from a startling scientific discovery about nutrition, which demonstrates that we are more than what we eat:
"We are likely what our mothers ate, too, according to scientists at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In a study of nutrition's effects on development, the scientists showed they could change the coat color of baby mice simply by feeding their mothers four common nutritional supplements before and during pregnancy and lactation. Moreover, these four supplements lowered the offspring's susceptibility to obesity, diabetes and cancer.
Results of the study are published in and featured on the cover of the Aug. 1, 2003, issue of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
"We have long known that maternal nutrition profoundly impacts disease susceptibility in their offspring, but we never understood the cause-and-effect link," said Randy Jirtle, Ph.D., professor of radiation oncology at Duke and senior investigator of the study. "For the first time ever, we have shown precisely how nutritional supplementation to the mother can permanently alter gene expression in her offspring without altering the genes themselves."
In the Duke experiments, pregnant mice that received dietary supplements with vitamin B12, folic acid, choline and betaine (from sugar beets) gave birth to babies predominantly with brown coats. In contrast, pregnant mice that did not receive the nutritional supplements gave birth predominantly to mice with yellow coats.
The non-supplemented mothers were not deficient in these nutrients.
A study of the cellular differences between the groups of baby mice showed that the extra nutrients reduced the expression of a specific gene, called Agouti, to cause the coat color change. Yet the Agouti gene itself remained unchanged.
Just how the babies' coat colors changed without their Agouti gene being altered is the most exciting part of their research, said Jirtle. The mechanism that enabled this permanent color change – called "DNA methylation" -- could potentially affect dozens of other genes that make humans and animals susceptible to cancer, obesity, diabetes, and even autism, he said.
"Our study demonstrates how early environmental factors can alter gene expression without mutating the gene itself," said Rob Waterland, Ph.D., a research fellow in the Jirtle laboratory and lead author of the study. "The implications for humans are huge because methylation is a common event in the human genome, and it is clearly a malleable effect that is subject to subtle changes in utero."
During DNA methylation, a quartet of atoms -- called a methyl group – attaches to a gene at a specific point and alters its function. Methylation leaves the gene itself unchanged. Instead, the methyl group conveys a message to silence the gene or reduce its expression inside a given cell. Such an effect is referred to as "epigenetic" because it occurs over and above the gene sequence without altering any of the letters of the four-unit genetic code.
In the treated mice, one or several of the four nutrients caused the Agouti gene to become methylated, thereby reducing its expression – and potentially that of other genes, as well. Moreover, the methylation occurred early during gestation, as evidenced by its widespread manifestation throughout cells in the liver, brain, kidney and tail.
"Our data suggest these changes occur early in embryonic development, before one would even be aware of the pregnancy," said Jirtle. "Any environmental condition that impacts these windows in early development can result in developmental changes that are life-long, some of them beneficial and others detrimental."
If such epigenetic alterations occur in the developing sperm or eggs, they could even be passed on to the next generation, potentially becoming a permanent change in the family line, added Jirtle. In fact, data gathered by Swedish researcher Gunnar Kaati and colleagues indicates just such a multi-generational effect. In that study of nutrition in the late 1800s, boys who reached adolescence (when sperm are reaching maturity) during years of bountiful crop yield produced a lineage of grandchildren with a significantly higher rate of diabetes. No cause-and-effect link was established, but Jirtle suspect’s epigenetic alterations could underlie this observation.
Moreover, methylating a single gene can have multiple effects. For example, the Agouti gene regulates more than just coat color. Mice that over-express the Agouti protein tend to be obese and susceptible to diabetes because the protein also binds with a receptor in the hypothalamus and interferes with the signal to stop eating. Methylating the Agouti gene in mice, therefore, also reduces their susceptibility to obesity, diabetes and cancer.
Hence, the researchers stress the importance of understanding the molecular effects of nutrition on cells, not just the outward manifestations of it.
"Diet, nutritional supplements and other seemingly innocuous compounds can alter the development in utero to such an extent that it changes the offspring's characteristics for life, and potentially that of future generations," said Waterland. "Nutritional epigenetics could, for example, explain the differences between genetically identical twins, or the disparities in the incidence of stroke between the South and the North. The possibilities are endless."

Resveratrol, one of the components in this program, controls genes that protect you from age related diseases, like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s... WATCH VIDEO

Smoking is a risk factor for cancer and heart disease. Eating a high glycemic diet is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer. But the number one risk factor for developing all chronic disease is......... AGING.
If you can slow down aging by turning the right genes on and the wrong ones off, and reduce the damage done to the genes, you not only have a better quality of life, longer, but one that could be disease free.

This is what current studies are telling us. Epigenetics is the new understanding in biological medicine. We are not dealt a hand of cards from our parents that defines how and what we will die from, or even how soon. All of us have anti-aging genes called Sirtuins. According to recent research in mice and other organisms, turn on or stimulate Sirtuins and you can increase life span and stop the progression of all the major age related diseases. Up until recently, the only way to do this was with caloric restriction. If you lower your caloric intake by say 30%, you turn on anti-aging genes. I find that if you adopt a low glycemic diet, your appetite will eventually go down and you can eat 1200-1500 calories a day and not be hungry. In addition to this, there are phytonutrients we can take that turn on good genes and turn the bad ones off.
Do you understand what this means?
This information has only come out in the last 10 years and is only now getting out to the masses. Nutrients like Resveratrol, Curcumin, Pine Bark Ext, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Green Tea Ext (ECGC), Polyphenols, proanthocyanidins (OPCs), Grape Seed Ext, CoQ10, D3, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, all have a huge effect on altering Gene Expression and therefore altering health and wellness.

The programs I have put together are listed on my webpage on Anti-Aging... Check them out.
