Vitamin D could save your life...

If by now you haven't increased your levels of vitamin D3, you haven't been paying attention to me, or the media. Epigenetics has a profound effect on healing and stopping the disease process. The way vitamin D works is by turning good genes on and bad genes off. This is Epigenetic Nutritional Control at work, and it is just one of many nutrients and phytonutrients that have the power to do this.
Your thinking process is the most powerful epigenetic controlling tool you have, are you using it? It starts with you seeing the need to make changes and then incorporating those changes into your daily life.
Based on my research and the research of the top scientists in the country today, you may really want to consider taking 1,000 to 2,000 IU's for children and 2,000 to 5,000 IU's for adults everyday and perhaps 10,000 IU's if you have very low vitamin D blood scores and or are dealing with extreme health issues. At this time, the scientific consensus is that optimal vitamin D levels are 40 to 60 ng/mL. Consult with your doctor first, but the levels above are considered within the safe levels and it could have a profound improvement in your health now and in the future.

Children at Risk From Current Low Vitamin D Recommendations ...
Proponents of using nutrition, supplements and other natural means to obtain and keep optimum health have long warned that the FDA approved minimum daily allowance of some vitamins is woefully inadequate. Now new research backs up that idea when it comes to vitamin D in children. In fact, according to a report set for July publication in The Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), children may need and safely take ten times the 200 International Units (IUs) of vitamin D currently recommended by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. This fact could have long-term importance for youngsters because the new research reveals such an increase in vitamin D could improve the bone health of children worldwide -- and it may have other life-long health benefits, too.

Vitamin D and calcium influence cell death in the colon, researchers find...
Researchers at Emory University are learning how vitamins and minerals in the diet can stimulate or prevent the appearance of colon cancer.
Emory investigators will present their findings on biological markers that could influence colon cancer risk in three abstracts at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in San Diego.
In a clinical study of 92 patients, supplementing diet with calcium and vitamin D appeared to increase the levels of a protein called Bax that controls programmed cell death in the colon. More Bax might be pushing pre-cancerous cells into programmed cell death, says Emory researcher Veronika Fedirko, who will present her team's results (abstract 464).
Previous studies have shown that calcium and vitamin D tend to reduce colon cancer risk.

Intake Of Vitamin D And Calcium Associated With Lower Risk Of Breast Cancer Before Menopause...
Women who consume higher amounts of calcium and vitamin D may have a lower risk of developing premenopausal breast cancer, according to a new study. Data from animal studies have linked calcium and vitamin D to breast cancer prevention, according to background information in the article. However, epidemiologic studies on humans have been less conclusive.

Prostates protected by vitamin D: study...
The benefits of vitamin D for prostates may be due to the action of the vitamin on a specific gene, suggests new research that deepens our understanding of how nutrients and genes interact.
Researchers from the University of Rochester Medical Center report that the active form of vitamin D in the body, 1,25-hydroxylvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D), may link with a gene known as G6PD, which releases an antioxidant enzyme and protect DNA from damage.
"Many epidemiological studies have suggested the beneficial properties of vitamin D," said lead researcher Yi-Fen Lee. "Our findings reflect what we see in those studies and demonstrate that vitamin D not only can be used as a therapy for prostate cancer, it can prevent prostate cancer from happening."

Low Vitamin D Intake Boosts Heart Attack, Stroke Risk by 60 Percent ...
Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular events, according to a study conducted by researchers at the Harvard Medical School and published in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation. Participants with low levels of vitamin D had a 60 percent higher chance of experiencing a cardiovascular event, including heart attack, heart failure or stroke, during the study period than participants with high blood levels. The correlation remained even after researchers adjusted for other risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
