I read this week that for the first time, obesity in this country has overtaken being just overweight, so I guess being overweight is now the new skinny.
How depressing and it is so avoidable.
On my website cwiechert.com, I have an Ideal Diet listed for those who want to stay healthy and keep weight normal and inflammation down, as well as a weigh loss (fat loss) and longevity lifestyle program that will, over time, remove fat accumulation safely and in a healthy way.
They are both based on over 35 years of research into what constitutes the best way to eat based on our genetics and the best way to lose accumulated fat that has been acquired over one's lifetime.
The manufacturers of high glycemic food like breads, cereals, and grains, as well as high fructose corn syrup, all want you to believe that they are healthy and use very misleading marketing tactics. All you have to do is follow people around the store, look at what they load their carts with and then look at their physique. It's a study in epidemiology. The carts are loaded with cases of soda, carbohydrates of all sorts, but few of them are filled with lean meats, vegetables, nuts, fruits, or legumes. The healthiest people in the study of anthropology were Hunters and Gatherers. Races like the Egyptians ate a diet high in breads, cereals, beer, and little sugar, yet they had stunted growth, poor teeth, diabetes, and obesity.
READ for yourself...
We have added lots of sugar and corn syrup on top of that diet high in carbs and this is what we have, obesity and an epidemic of type 2 diabetes.
I have included an abundance of studies this week that support a low glycemic diet, as well as other important health issues.

Low-carbohydrate Diet Burns More Excess Liver Fat Than Low-calorie Diet, Clinical Study Finds...
People on low-carbohydrate diets are more dependent on the oxidation of fat in the liver for energy than those on a low-calorie diet, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found in a small clinical study. The findings, published in the journal Hepatology, could have implications for treating obesity and related diseases such as diabetes, insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, said Dr. Jeffrey Browning, assistant professor in the UT Southwestern Advanced Imaging Research Center and of internal medicine at the medical center. "Instead of looking at drugs to combat obesity and the diseases that stem from it, maybe optimizing diet can not only manage and treat these diseases, but also prevent them," said Dr. Browning, the study's lead author.
Very Low-carbohydrate Diets Work For Men And Upper Body Fat...
Scientists say that low carbohydrate diets, like the Atkins and South Beach Diets, may actually be the best option for men who want to slim. New research, published this week in the Open Access journal, Nutrition & Metabolism, shows that over 70% of men lost more weight and fat on a low carbohydrate diet, despite eating more calories.
Low Glycemic Index Diet Best For Weight Loss And Cardiovascular Health...
The most effective diet for weight loss and cardiovascular health is a high carbohydrate plan based on low glycemic index (GI) foods, according to a study by University of Sydney researchers. Undertaken by Professor Jennie Brand-Miller and Joanna McMillan-Price from the University of Sydney Human Nutrition Unit, the findings show that there is no 'one diet fits all' solution, and although both high protein and low GI diets will help you to shed fat. However, it did show that a diet containing low GI carbohydrate significantly reduces your risk of heart disease.
Sweetened Beverage Consumption Increases Dramatically In U.S....
Over the past two decades, the number of adults consuming sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, fruit drinks and punches has increased dramatically, according to a study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Researchers examined changes over the past two decades in sugar-sweetened beverage consumption based on nationally representative survey data, and found that sugar-sweetened beverages comprise a significant source of total daily beverage intake and are the largest source of beverage calories consumed daily.
Obesity in ancient Egypt
Ten or twelve years ago we wrote in Protein Power about the data contained in the vast amount of ancient Egyptian mummies. We pointed out that several thousand years ago when the future mummies roamed the earth their diet was a nutritionist’s nirvana. At least a nirvana for all the so-called nutritional experts of today who are recommending a diet filled with whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and little meat, especially red meat. Follow such a diet, we’re told, and we will enjoy abundant health.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work that way for the Egyptians. They followed such a diet simply because that’s all there was. There was no sugar - it wouldn’t be produced for another thousand or more years. The only sweet was honey, which was consumed in limited amounts. The primary staple was a coarse bread made of stone-ground, whole wheat. Animals were used as beasts of burden and were valued much more for the work they could do than for the meat they could provide. The banks of the Nile provided fertile soil for growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables, all of which were a part the low-fat, high-carbohydrate Egyptian diet. And there were no artificial sweeteners, artificial coloring, artificial flavors, preservatives, or any of the other substances that are part of all the manufactured foods we eat today.
Low Vitamin D Levels Raise Breast Cancer Death Risk by 75 Percent...
Women who are deficient in vitamin D at the time they are diagnosed with breast cancer are nearly 75 percent more likely to die from the disease than women with sufficient vitamin D levels, and their cancer is twice as likely to spread to other parts of the body."This study links vitamin D with the aggressiveness of disease," said JoEllen Walsh of the University of Albany, who was not involved in the study. "It suggests that your vitamin D status may affect how your disease progresses."

Oily Fish Consumption At Least Once A Week Will Protect Your Eyesight In Old Age...
Eating oily fish once a week may reduce age-related macular degeneration (AMD) which is the major cause of blindness and poor vision in adults in western countries and the third cause of global blindness, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
How scientists linked sunshine, diet and disease...
The evidence that points unerringly to a link between vitamin D and Scotland's health statistics can be traced back to a journey undertaken in 1977 by two young Americans, Frank and Cedric Garland, who were studying cancer.
They regularly drove their white Ford Mustang from San Diego, California, to Johns Hopkins Medical School on the east coast, noticing the dramatic change in weather from sunshine to snow. When they saw a map showing that bowel cancer was much more common in the northeast of the United States than it is in the south and west, they immediately understood that sunshine might provide the explanation.
“Everyone else was thinking it must be something that people ate, like the amount of fibre or meat burnt on the barbecue,” said Frank Garland. “We were alert to the difference in climate because we had direct experience of it.”
Low potassium linked to high blood pressure...
In a multi-ethnic population-based group of 3,303 adults, half of whom were African American, a low potassium level in the urine correlated with high blood pressure, regardless of the level of salt (sodium) in the diet or cardiovascular risk factors.
This observation "supports the hypothesis that dietary potassium deficiency plays an important role in the development of high blood pressure," Dr. Susan Hedayati, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, told Reuters Health.
Depression in elderly tied to heart disease...
Older people who are depressed are much more likely to develop a dangerous type of internal body fat — the kind that can lead to diabetes and heart disease — than people who are not depressed, a disturbing new study found.
The connection goes beyond obesity and suggests some biological link between a person's mental state and fat that collects around the internal organs, scientists said.
Most Heart Attack Patients' Cholesterol Levels Did Not Indicate Cardiac Risk...
A new national study has shown that nearly 75 percent of patients hospitalized for a heart attack had cholesterol levels that would indicate they were not at high risk for a cardiovascular event, based on current national cholesterol guidelines. Specifically, these patients had low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels that met current guidelines, and close to half had LDL levels classified in guidelines as optimal (less than 100 mg/dL).
HOW TO LIVE TO 120 - BOOMERS ARE CLAMORING FOR A LONGER LIFE - AND SCIENCE MAY JUST GIVE IT TO THEM...
"Before the day is over we'll have 12,000 more Baby Boomers hit 52," said gerontologist Dr. Robert Butler, 81. "By 2025, (Boomers) will constitute 20% of our society, and they'll be over 65." Butler is the founder and president of the New York-based International Longevity Center, which advises individuals and politicians about the latest age boom. His own book, "The Longevity Revolution: The Benefits and Challenges of Living a Long Life," came out last spring, aimed toward a graying readership that is naturally looking for ways to stay healthy.
"There is a field of 'anti-aging medicine,' where there is a lot of baloney," Butler cautions, but he notes that in addition to the expected cadre of snake-oil salesmen, there exist solid - if early - scientific breakthroughs.
"There really has been some progress not only in preventing age-related disease but also in the capacity to slow aging at the biological level," he says.

Ten Studies Showing the Link Between Sugar and Increased Cancer Risk...
How many times have you heard it mentioned that sugar causes cancer, that cancer patients should avoid sugar, or that sugar is the favorite food of cancer cells? The truth is, this goes beyond mere hearsay or traditional knowledge; there is actually a large volume of scientific evidence available which shows the link between sugar and increased cancer risk. Here, ten such studies are summarized.
Drink Brewed Tea To Avoid Tooth Erosion, Study Suggests...
Today, the average size soft drink is 20 ounces and contains 17 teaspoons of sugar. More startling is that some citric acids found in fruit drinks are more erosive than hydrochloric or sulfuric acid—which is also known as battery acid. These refined sugars and acids found in soda and citrus juice promote tooth erosion, which wears away the hard part of the teeth, or the enamel. Once tooth enamel is lost, it's gone forever.
Fructose Sets Table For Weight Gain Without Warning...
Eating too much fructose can induce leptin resistance, a condition that can easily lead to becoming overweight when combined with a high-fat, high-calorie diet, according to a new study with rats. Although previous studies have shown that being leptin resistant can lead to rapid weight gain on a high-fat, high-calorie diet, this is the first study to show that leptin resistance can develop as a result of high fructose consumption. The study also showed for the first time that leptin resistance can develop silently, that is, with little indication that it is happening.
Lack Of Vitamin D Linked To Parkinson's Disease...
A majority of Parkinson's disease patients had insufficient levels of vitamin D in a new study from Emory University School of Medicine. The fraction of Parkinson's patients with vitamin D insufficiency, 55 percent, was significantly more than patients with Alzheimer's disease (41 percent) or healthy elderly people (36 percent).
The finding adds to evidence that low vitamin D is associated with Parkinson's, says first author Marian Evatt, MD, assistant professor of neurology at Emory.
Resveratrol Found to Halt Growth of Pancreatic Cancer Cells...
Recent research suggests that the antioxidant resveratrol, which naturally occurs in grape skins, can weaken pancreatic cancer cells and increase their vulnerability to chemotherapy. "Resveratrol seems to have a therapeutic gain by making tumor cells more sensitive to radiation and making normal tissue less sensitive," said lead researcher Paul Okunieff, chief of radiation oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Nut-Enriched Mediterranean Diet Helps Reverse Metabolic Syndrome...
Patients with metabolic syndrome were 70% more likely than a control group to see resolution of the syndrome after a year of following a Mediterranean diet enriched with nuts, investigators here reported. Patients who stayed on the high-fat, nut-supplemented diet had more than a six-fold greater resolution of the syndrome compared with the control group who were counseled about a low-fat diet, Jordi Salas-Salvado, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of Rovira i Virgili, and colleagues wrote in the Dec. 8/22 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.
Doctor preaches wonder cure: Vitamin D...
It reduces pain. It reduces illness. There is almost nothing that vitamin D can’t help, and that’s Dr. Greg Plotnikoff’s point. There is an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency, especially among the obese, the elderly and dark-skinned people living in the sun-deprived north. In fact, most Minnesotans are likely deficient in winter, unless they take supplements, because they live too far north to get enough vitamin D from the sun. Deficiencies have been linked to 17 kinds of cancer, autoimmune diseases, chronic pain, heart disease, depression and ADHD.
In fact, there is almost nothing that vitamin D can’t help, and that’s Plotnikoff’s point.
Organic Food Has No More Nutritional Value Than Food Grown With Pesticides, Study Shows...
New research in the latest issue of the Society of Chemical Industry’s (SCI) Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture shows there is no evidence to support the argument that organic food is better than food grown with the use of pesticides and chemicals. Many people pay more than a third more for organic food in the belief that it has more nutritional content than food grown with pesticides and chemicals.
But the research by Dr Susanne Bügel and colleagues from the Department of Human Nutrition, University of Copenhagen, shows there is no clear evidence to back this up.

How do you get your health questions answered, it makes a big difference where you look... Are you reading the bathrooms, stalls?
When you have a health issue you are concerned about, where do you do your research? I hear a lot of people tell me they search the Internet to find answers to there questions. I want to caution everyone that the Internet, as great as it is, is really nothing more than a huge bathroom stall. You will find profound writings there as well as useless and harmful information that could harm you in your quest for ideal health.
I do a ton of research every week, and I do it on the Internet. I use sources that I trust and I present real studies to all of you so you can make an intelligent choice in how you treat yourself and your family. I also filter out obvious biases where people have an agenda that may only be based on their dietary or medical preference, as opposed to what real research has shown us.
Instead of just using a search engine to research your questions, use good sources like Web MD for medical questions. And did you know you can search 4 years of my blogs to find relevant studies and findings on your health issues? Give it a try. The search feature is near the bottom of my main home page, cwiechert.com. You can search Google there as well as my HealthBlogger site and cwiechert.com.

Vitamin E Shows Possible Promise In Easing Chronic Inflammation...
With up to half of a person’s body mass consisting of skeletal muscle, chronic inflammation of those muscles – which include those found in the limbs – can result in significant physical impairment. According to University of Illinois kinesiology and community health professor Kimberly Huey, past research has demonstrated that the antioxidant properties of Vitamin E may be associated with reduced expression of certain pro-inflammatory cytokines, in vitro, in various types of cells. Cytokines are regulatory proteins that function as intercellular communicators that assist the immune system in generating a response.
Low Thyroid Hormone Increases Risk of Death from Heart Attack by Seventy Percent ...
By taking natural thyroid hormone tablets to reduce the level of thyroid stimulating hormone to the low end of the normal range, men and women can reduce death from cardiovascular disease by 70 percent. This earthshaking finding far exceeds results from any drug intervention. The 70 percent is not a statistical manipulation based on relative numbers. It represents an absolute decrease in death.
Is Resveratrol the Fountain of Youth?...
There are a lot of great anti-aging and metabolism boosting nutrients: DHA, pantethine, acetyl-l-carnitine, carnosine, R-alpha lipoic acid, grape seed extracts – the list goes on and on. In fact, most nutrients help cells function better and thus live longer. So, why is resveratrol vying for the position as King of the anti-aging nutrients – with a potent fat-burning twist thrown in for good measure?
The Procyanidins of Red Wine and Their Anti-Aging Effect...
Moderate red wine drinkers have less incidence of heart disease than non-drinkers and now scientists are confirming a direct correlation between red wine and many powerful anti-aging benefits. Moderate consumption of some red wines may be a very effective way of improving your cardiovascular health as well as your lifespan. However, it is important to choose the correct red wine.
Selenium May Improve Heart Health...
Oxidative stress plays a key role in the progression of coronary artery disease (CAD). To defend arteries against the free radicals that cause oxidative stress, the body makes use of an antioxidant defense system that includes enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidases (GPxs). Furthermore, during in vivo animal studies, a form of glutathione peroxidase (GPx-1) has been reported to influence vascular function. During the in vitro study, researchers incubated human coronary artery endothelial cells with different doses of different selenium compounds, including sodium selenite and methylselenocysteine. The researchers discovered that both types of selenium cause an increase in the activity of GPx-1 protein, an enzyme important in antioxidant defense and cardiovascular protection, in a dose-dependent manner.
Study Shows Link Between Fat and Fructose...
The body converts fructose into fat much more rapidly than it does with other sugars, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Texas and published in the Journal of Nutrition.Researchers fed a series of three soft drinks in randomized order to four men and two women with an average body mass index of 24.3 and an average age of 28. One drink contained a 100 percent glucose sweetener, another a 50-50 mix of glucose and fructose, and the third a 25-75 glucose-fructose mix. The participants' blood triglyceride and fat synthesis levels were measured immediately after consumption.
Talcum powder as dangerous as asbestos ...
Back in 1973 the evidence about the dangers of talc prompted the FDA to think about steps to reduce the level of the asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic talc. The dangers are that talc is related to asbestos – a known carcinogen – and that the presence of talc particles is linked to tumors. However, the FDA did not regulate cosmetic talc even after 1993 when the National Toxicology Program reported that cosmetic talc, which had no fibers, was the cause of tumors in animals.
Now we have another study (published in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention journal) that shows that women who use talcum powder around their genital areas are 40% more likely to develop ovarian cancer. The study led by Dr Maggie Gates of Harvard Medical School analyzed 3,000 women. The risk of ovarian cancer for those who used talcum powder once a week was found to be 36%, while those using it every day the risk went up to 41%.
Cancer Projected To Become Leading Cause Of Death Worldwide In 2010...
Despite the recent good news that cancer incidence and death rates for men and women in the United States continue to decline, cancer is projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide in the year 2010, and low- and middle-income countries will feel the impact of higher cancer incidence and death rates more sharply than industrialized countries.
Potentially Universal Mechanism Of Aging Identified...
Researchers have uncovered what may be a universal cause of aging, one that applies to both single cell organisms such as yeast and multicellular organisms, including mammals. This is the first time that such an evolutionarily conserved aging mechanism has been identified between such diverse organisms.
Video - Men's & Women's Sexual Health Helped by L-Arginine...
There is an enzyme called nitric oxide synthase, or NOS. And NOS helps to stimulate and generate the production of nitric oxide where nitric oxide pulls nitrogen from L-arginine, which is circulating in the blood and it pulls an atom also of oxygen and these two atoms are put together to produce nitric oxide. So it’s the nitric oxide increase that produces an increase in vassal dilation, in blood circulation. And as there is an increased amount of blood suddenly flowing into all these micro vessels in response to the sexual stimulation—whether male or female—it heightens the sexual arousal experience that the individual is having.

Macadamia Nuts Taste Great And Keep You Heart Healthy ...
Think of the creamy rich taste of a macadamia nut. Consider its crunch. Many believe the macadamia to be the world’s finest nut. This may all sound really dreamy, but macadamias are full of fat, so they’re probably not good for you, right? Well, recent studies are finding that a diet rich in macadamia nuts reduces total cholesterol, including LDL-cholesterol, and favorably modulates risk factors for coronary disease in patients with high cholesterol levels.
Watch What You Put In That Sippy Cup, Experts Warn...
Juice boxes look harmless enough, with those kid-size, bendable straws and promises of 100 percent vitamin C. As healthy as juice seems, parents need to be wary of doling out too much to children, especially during the summer when kids need plenty of fluids to stay safe, a University of Florida expert says. Unlike water and low-fat milk, fruit juices and sodas are laden with fructose, a type of naturally occurring sugar that could trigger obesity in humans, said Richard Johnson, MD., the J. Robert Cade professor of nephrology in the UF College of Medicine.
Treatment Fails To Improve Common Form Of Heart Failure, Study Finds...
A medication used for high blood pressure does not improve a common form of heart failure, according to new results from a large, international study.
The findings are disappointing to researchers, who continue to study other medications in search of a successful treatment for the condition, which predominantly affects older individuals, particularly women.
Teens Girls Smoke Now, Pay Later With Larger Waistlines As Adults...
Remember the cool girls, huddled together in high school restrooms, puffing their cigarettes? Well, here’s consolation for the nerds in the crowd: Those teen smokers are more likely to experience obesity as adults, according to a new study from Finland.

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." Albert Einstein
Here is an example. I will search HealthBlogger for the phrase "vitamin D".
Or I can search cwiechert.com for the phrase "the ideal diet".
Just remember to ignore the sponsored ads and view the main search results. If you read a study and you want to know where to get a particular nutrient or supplement, just e-mail me at cww@cwiechert.com and ask me where to find it and what form is the best. I will send you a link to the best options out there, with the best quality and at the best affordable price.
Enjoy this week's articles... and remember, it's never too late to get younger.

Video - How Increased Sun Exposure Could Save Millions of Lives...
Breast cancer around the world is related to how much sun exposure women get.
It relates to how much vitamin D3 is in your blood.

Somethings to consider for 2009
Did you gain some weight in 2008? Have you decided to go on a caloric restriction diet this year?
Don't... Diets don't work. If you are ready to initiate a Lifestyle Change Program then go ahead, but dieting just destroys your metabolism and you will gain all the weight back plus some more for extra measure. Add some exercise. Either join a gym if you need baby sitting or want to tone your body, or just walk an hour every day or two at least.
Have you decided to eat healthier this year? Please do. As you will see from this week's studies it can help you prevent many diseases. What type of diets are the best. Either the Hunter Gatherer, that I recommend, or the Mediterranean Diet are the best for long term health and wellness. Get rid of vegetable oils and start using Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Don't buy foods or drinks with High Fructose Corn Syrup or grains that are highly refined with little fiber or nutritional value.
Have you made the decision to quit smoking? Please do for you and everyone around you. It doesn't just affect your health, it affects those around you, as well.
If you are a women and worried about bone health, don't take drugs like Fosamax, and don't just take calcium, it won't help. You need calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin K, boron, zinc, copper and manganese.
Have you made the decision to include a vitamin mineral supplement this year? I would highly recommend it. Get one that has therapeutic amounts of nutrients that are quality in nature. Cheap vitamins are worthless. Get one that includes phytonutrients like grape seed ext or Spirulina, and at least 1000 IU's to 4,000 IU's of vitamin D3, natural E, CoQ10, and if possible, Acetyl L-Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid. You have been told you can get eveything you need vitamin wise from food. Please read this week's study on vitamin B1. Mega doses of vitamins can reverse many diseases. Don't believe doctors who get only 8 hours of nutritional education over their 8 year medical program.
Here are some great ones... One of them will fit your budget. They are cheap insurance.

High Fiber Diets Support Weight Loss...
Although the National Cancer Institute recommends a daily intake of 20-35 grams of fiber, most Americans consumer less than half that amount. By choosing fiber-rich foods you can improve your overall health and increase your weight loss results. Research at Tufts University in Boston shows people who eat more fiber consume less total calories and lose more weight than those who eat a diet deficient in fiber.
Sugar Can Be Addictive: Animal Studies Show Sugar Dependence...
A Princeton University scientist will present new evidence today demonstrating that sugar can be an addictive substance, wielding its power over the brains of lab animals in a manner similar to many drugs of abuse. Professor Bart Hoebel and his team in the Department of Psychology and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute have been studying signs of sugar addiction in rats for years. Until now, the rats under study have met two of the three elements of addiction. They have demonstrated a behavioral pattern of increased intake and then showed signs of withdrawal. His current experiments captured craving and relapse to complete the picture.
Vitamin B1 Could Reverse Early-stage Kidney Disease In Diabetes Patients...
Researchers at the University of Warwick have discovered high doses of thiamine – vitamin B1 – can reverse the onset of early diabetic kidney disease. The team has discovered taking high oral doses of thiamine can dramatically decrease the excretion of albumin and reverse early stage kidney disease in type 2 diabetes patients.
Olive Oil Contains Natural Anti-inflammatory Agent...
A naturally occurring chemical found in extra-virgin olive oils is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, report scientists from the Monell Chemical Senses Center and collaborators at the University of Pennsylvania, The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and Firmenich, Inc. Named oleocanthal by the researchers, the compound inhibits activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, a pharmacological action shared by ibuprofen.
New Anti-cancer Components Of Extra-virgin Olive Oil Revealed...
Good quality extra-virgin olive oil contains health-relevant chemicals, ‘phytochemicals’, that can trigger cancer cell death. New research sheds more light on the suspected association between olive oil-rich Mediterranean diets and reductions in breast cancer risk.
Common Oral Osteoporosis Drugs Linked To Serious Jaw Necrosis...
Researchers at the University Of Southern California, School Of Dentistry release results of clinical data that links oral bisphosphonates to increased jaw necrosis. The study is among the first to acknowledge that even short-term use of common oral osteoporosis drugs may leave the jaw vulnerable to devastating necrosis, according to a new report. Most doctors who have prescribed bisphosphonates have not told patients about any oral health risks associated with the use of the drugs, despite even short-term usage posing a risk due to the drug's tenacious 10-year half life in bone tissue. Lydia Macwilliams of Los Angeles said no one told her about the risk posed by her three years of Fosamax usage until she became a patient of Sedghizadeh at the School of Dentistry. "I was surprised," she said. "My doctor who prescribed the Fosamax didn't tell me about any possible problems with my teeth."
Grape-seed Extract Kills Laboratory Leukemia Cells, Proving Value Of Natural Compounds...
An extract from grape seeds forces laboratory leukemia cells to commit cell suicide, according to researchers from the University of Kentucky. They found that within 24 hours, 76 percent of leukemia cells had died after being exposed to the extract. "These results could have implications for the incorporation of agents such as grape seed extract into prevention or treatment of hematological malignancies and possibly other cancers," said the study's lead author, Xianglin Shi, Ph.D., professor in the Graduate Center for Toxicology at the University of Kentucky.
"What everyone seeks is an agent that has an effect on cancer cells but leaves normal cells alone, and this shows that grape seed extract fits into this category," he said.
Smoking ban leads to major drop in heart attacks...
A smoking ban in one Colorado city led to a dramatic drop in heart attack hospitalizations within three years, a sign of just how serious a health threat secondhand smoke is, government researchers said Wednesday. The study, the longest-running of its kind, showed the rate of hospitalized cases dropped 41 percent in the three years after the ban of workplace smoking in Pueblo, Colo., took effect. There was no such drop in two neighboring areas, and researchers believe it's a clear sign the ban was responsible.
The study suggests that secondhand smoke may be a terrible and under-recognized cause of heart attack deaths in this country, said one of its authors, Terry Pechacek of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Broccoli Compound Targets Key Enzyme In Late-stage Cancer...
An anti-cancer compound found in broccoli and cabbage works by lowering the activity of an enzyme associated with rapidly advancing breast cancer, according to a University of California, Berkeley, study appearing Dec 3 in the online early edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Metabolic Danger of High-Fructose Corn Syrup...
Americans are being poisoned by a common additive present in a wide array of processed foods like soft drinks and salad dressings, commercially made cakes and cookies, and breakfast cereals and brand-name breads.
This commonplace additive silently increases our risk of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.
The name of this toxic additive is high-fructose corn syrup. It is so ubiquitous in processed foods and so over-consumed by the average American that many experts believe our nation faces the prospect of an epidemic of metabolic disease in the future, related in significant degree to excess consumption of high-fructose corn syrup.
Acetyl L-Carnitine and Alpha-Lipoic Acid may be Fountain of Youth for the Brain ...
Throughout human history aging people have yearned for a magic elixir to help them turn back the clock and restore youth. It could be that this dream is about to come true. In a recent landmark study, old lab rats taking a mixture of acetyl L-carnitine and alpha-lipoic acid regained so much of their youth and vigor they "got up to do the Macarena", according to study director Bruce Ames.
Selenium May Prevent High Risk-bladder Cancer...
A study published in the December issue of Cancer Prevention Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, suggests that selenium, a trace mineral found in grains, nuts and meats, may aid in the prevention of high-risk bladder cancer. Researchers from Dartmouth Medical School compared selenium levels in 767 individuals newly diagnosed with bladder cancer to the levels of 1,108 individuals from the general population. Findings showed an inverse association between selenium and bladder cancer among women, some smokers and those with p53 positive bladder cancer.

I want to introduce you to my friend Dan Shen...
I was introduced to Dan Shen a few months back. No, it's not a man who I met, it's an amazing herb that is part of my program for improving my heart. I added a few nutrients to my life extension program that have had a very powerful impact on my progress. As I mentioned the other day, I added Serrapeptase, which removes scar tissue, fibroid tissue, and plaque and Salvia Miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen), who's attributes are mentioned below.
Would your cardiologist ever recommend these nutrients?
At a recent conference of heart specialists, this is what happened when Dr. Zi stated to the crowd that as much as 80% of heart operations could have been eliminated by the use of Dan Shen. Four or five surgeons got up and left the class, never to return!
You can't blame them I guess, but perhaps if you were in the room with heart problems and were waiting for an operation, maybe your ears would have perked up and your note pad would have come out, ready for every word you could discern. I know it would have gotten my attention...
This is why I recommend taking charge of your own health, as nobody cares more about your health than you do.
You're never too old to get younger!!!

The Amazing Heart Normalizing Action Of Dan Shen...
Serous heart problems such as angina, arrhythmias, repeated episodes of “A-Fib” and other heart disorders can actually be eliminated with a single whole herb called Salvia miltiorrhiza known in China as Dan Shen. This is accomplished safely and remarkably fast. Dan Shen is one of those herbs that Big Pharma tries to “bury under the rug” because of the threats it poses on all the “wonderful FDA approved” heart drugs.
Newly Approved Cardiovascular Treatment in China Features Same Active Ingredient as Technical Sourcing’s MSV 60...
One of the most significant remedies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dan Shen has been the subject of research at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), a unit of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, since 1992. On May 25, the SFDA approved a new drug application for depsides salts from Salvia miltiorrhiza, with magnesium lithospermate B as the primary active compound, for the potential treatment of chronic angina. The approval came on the heels of years of clinical trials showing that the standardized extract significantly reduced myocardial infarct size (the portion of the heart muscle that is damaged by insufficient blood supply) and lessened myocardial injury, lowered the oxygen consumption of the heart muscle in tissue and animal studies, and reduced platelet aggregation (blood cell stickiness) and thrombosis (blood clot) formation.
Preventing A Broken Heart: Research Aims To Reduce Scarring From Heart Attacks...
A heart damaged by heart attack is usually broken, at least partially, for good. The injury causes excessive scar tissue to form, and this plays a role in permanently keeping heart muscle from working at full capacity. Now researchers have identified a key molecule involved in controlling excessive scar tissue formation in mice following a heart attack. When they stopped the scarring from occurring, the scientists found that the animals' heart function greatly improved following the injury.
Serrapeptase - A 2nd Gift from Silkworms...
The natural Chelation-Anti-Inflammatory Serrapeptase has had wide clinical use - spanning over twenty-five years throughout Europe and Asia - as a viable alternative to salicylates, ibuprofen and the more potent NSAIDs. Unlike these drugs, Serrapeptase is a naturally occurring, physiological agent with no inhibitory effects on prostaglandins and is devoid of gastrointestinal side effects. Serrapeptase digests non-living tissue, blood clots, cysts, and arterial plaque and inflammation in all forms. The late German physician, Dr. Hans Nieper, used Serrapeptase to treat arterial blockage in his coronary patients. Serrapeptase protects against stroke and is reportedly more effective and quicker than EDTA Chelation treatments in removing arterial plaque. He also reports that Serrapeptase dissolves blood clots and causes varicose veins to shrink or diminish. Dr. Nieper told of a woman scheduled for hand amputation and a man scheduled for bypass surgery who both recovered quickly without surgery after treatment with Serrapeptase.
Inflamed Gums Linked To Heart Disease...
The next person who reminds you to floss might be your cardiologist instead of your dentist. Scientists have known for some time that a protein associated with inflammation (called CRP) is elevated in people who are at risk for heart disease. But where's the inflammation coming from?

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." Albert Einstein

Let's start health reform for ourselves and our family, starting today!!!
We really do need health reform in this country. Instead of treating disease after it occurs we need to develop programs that prevent disease and therefore give us a better overall life for a longer period of time.
Does it makes sense to wait until your car breaks down before you maintain it?
Would you be considered smart to wait until your roof leaks before you repair it?
Do you wait until your checking account goes below zero before you add more funds?
In most every other area of life most people make preventative decisions that keep them from harms way. But when it comes to health we are taught by modern medicine to wait until we show signs of disease and then begin to treat it. It is a ridiculous position if you actually stop to think about it.
Perhaps it is because people still think there is no science behind supplementation and eating the right diet. I do my best every week to educate you otherwise and to think prevention.
NSI updated their Synergy Cardio Multi recently and I really like it. It contains many of the nutrients that I blog on all the time in therapeutic amounts and it is affordable for most everyone. For about $1.30 a day you can have incredible protection.
Take a look at this new product and see what I mean.

Cancer Preventive Properties Identified In Resveratrol, Found In Red Wine, Red Grapes...
Early laboratory research has shown that resveratrol, a common dietary supplement, suppresses the abnormal cell formation that leads to most types of breast cancer, suggesting a potential role for the agent in breast cancer prevention. Resveratrol is a natural substance found in red wine and red grapes. It is sold in extract form as a dietary supplement at most major drug stores.
Is Your Health Condition Linked to This Deficiency?...
“Stay out of the sun.” This dictate has become a cardinal rule of anti-aging, and chances are good that you’ve heard it from your doctor more than once. But recently, the medical community has started to reconsider this particular issue, and the reason can be traced directly back to calciferol—better known as vitamin D. It’s impossible to overstate the importance of adequate vitamin D intake. Years ago, scientists lauded it for its critical role in bone health. Today, however, we know that vitamin D might actually be the single most important vitamin in your body.
Is Vitamin C Harmful to Cancer Patients?...
In a recent presentation at the American Cancer Society meeting, Dr. David Golde of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center speculated that supplemental vitamin C may be harmful to cancer patients. Dr. Golde had previously shown how vitamin C gets into and accumulates in cancer cells. Golde and others are concerned that the extra vitamin C in cancer cells may enhance their growth or protect them from the cell-killing free radicals produced by radiation and some chemotherapeutic drugs.
The "Peanut Butter Diet": Heart-Healthy Alternative To Olive Oil...
ScienceDaily (Nov. 23, 1999) — Cholesterol-lowering, low fat diets have abounded in recent years in the quest to reduce the risk of heart disease, the most familiar being the American Heart Association's "Step II" diet, which confines dietary fat to less than 25% of calories and replaces the lost fat with carbohydrates. But recent research into the effects of monounsaturated fats (MUFAs, found in olive and certain other oils) suggests that low fat may not necessarily be the best way to ensure a healthy heart. Kris-Etherton and her colleagues at Pennsylvania State University made an across-the-board comparison of three diets: the Step II diet (25% fat), a diet high in MUFAs ( 34-36% fat), and the average American diet (34% fat). The high MUFA diets decreased cardiovascular risk by an average of 20.6%, versus a 12% reduction in risk for the Step II diet.
Vitamin C Lowers Levels Of Inflammation Biomarker Considered Predictor Of Heart Disease...
ScienceDaily (Nov. 14, 2008) — A new study led by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, adds to the evidence that vitamin C supplements can lower concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP), a central biomarker of inflammation that has been shown to be a powerful predictor of heart disease and diabetes. The same study found no benefit from daily doses of vitamin E, another antioxidant.
Black raspberries slow cancer by altering hundreds of genes...
New research strongly suggests that a mix of preventative agents, such as those found in concentrated black raspberries, may more effectively inhibit cancer development than single agents aimed at shutting down a particular gene. Researchers at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center examined the effect of freeze-dried black raspberries on genes altered by a chemical carcinogen in an animal model of esophageal cancer. The carcinogen affected the activity of some 2,200 genes in the animals’ esophagus in only one week, but 460 of those genes were restored to normal activity in animals that consumed freeze-dried black raspberry powder as part of their diet during the exposure.
93 Percent of Women with Infertility are Deficient in Vitamin D...
A new study conducted at Yale University School of Medicine reveals that vitamin D deficiency is strongly correlated with infertility. (Most likely, it causes infertility.) And rather than infertile women being pumped full of chemicals for conventional infertility treatments, what they really need is safe, simple, low-cost vitamin D. Of course, infertility treatment centers can't charge women $20,000 for vitamin D (like they do for in-vitro fertilization procedures), so they don't recommend it. They'd rather women remain vitamin D deficient so they can keep selling them expensive infertility treatments. Vitamin D is, without question, the miracle nutrient of the century.
Breast Cancer Rates Soar after Mammograms and Some Cancers may Heal Naturally...
A report just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s Archives of Internal Medicine (Arch Intern Med. 2008;168[21]:2302-2303) reaches a startling conclusion. Breast cancer rates increased significantly in four Norwegian counties after women there began getting mammograms every two years. In fact, according to background information in the study, the start of screening mammography programs throughout Europe has been associated with increased incidence of breast cancer.
Micronutrient Deficiency Responsible for Cancer and other Diseases, Proclaims Scientist ...
Deficiencies in micronutrients arising from a high-calorie, nutrient-poor diet may be responsible for many modern health problems from cancer to obesity, a health researcher has proclaimed.
Ames told a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that a diet rich in junk food, which has lots of calories but few vitamins and minerals, forces to body to enter a "crisis mode," designed to keep the body alive over the short term. The problem is that this leads the body to neglect its own long-term survival, including tasks such as repairing regular DNA damage and maintaining a healthy immune system."DNA damage increases deficiency of each of the 15 micronutrients that have been examined in humans, primary human cells in culture or in rodents," Ames said. "These deficiencies are associated with cancer."
NCI's Flawed SELECT Study Attacks Vitamin E...
The National Cancer Institute's (NCI) SELECT study (Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial) for prostate cancer in men was halted this week after initial data analysis showed that selenium and vitamin E, taken alone or together for an average of five years, did not prevent prostate cancer. Since the goal of SELECT was to prove a 25% risk reduction, and since early data suggested such a result was unlikely, the trial was stopped. Furthermore, the researchers felt that there were non-statistically significant possible risks: "there were slightly more cases of prostate cancer in men taking only vitamin E and slightly more cases of diabetes in men taking only selenium. Neither of these findings proves an increased risk from the supplements and may be due to chance."
Carnitines—Better Than Testosterone for Impotence ...
The Italians, it could be said, are in love with amore. Where there’s love, of course, there tends to be sex, so it seems fair to say that Italians have more than a passing interest in mankind’s favorite pastime. All of which may or may not have anything to do with the fact that some recent studies on the subject of sexual function (dysfunction, actually) were conducted by a team of Italian researchers in Ferrara, Bologna, Fermo (Ascoli Piceno), and Rome. Two of the scientists are the inventors of a patented process involving the combined use of two chemical compounds, propionyl-L-carnitine (PLC) and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC), “for the therapy of symptoms associated with partial androgen deficiency of the aging male.”

READ THIS LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT... How to survive a heart attack and repair the damage over time...
Six years ago I had severe heart damage due to inflammation from bacteria in my blood. Deep cleaning and root canal work along with amalgam removal at the dentist all had an effect in creating my condition. We now know that antibiotics are critical before and after major dental work, especially when you have a heart mummer or a history of Rheumatic Fever when you were a child. That being said, this year I had a heart attack (Infarction) and dealt with it in my home myself. (I don't recommend this for anyone else, so don't try this at home).
I survived because of the things I do right. 50% of people who get heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels. Did you know that? Why did I have a heart attack? I am not sure exactly. I had a stressful year, losing my only brother to lung cancer and being with him until his last breath. Financial concerns, who knows for sure...
I experimented on myself, as I do orthomolecularly, and made some quick changes. Perhaps that had an influence. But I take a life extension program and it made the difference that allowed me to survive the attack at home. A recent study showed that hearts that had been treated with resveratrol recovered in pretty good shape from what would have been a lethal heart attack. My recovery is nothing less than miraculous in many ways as I continue to do the right things, with a few new additions, to help my heart to regenerate. One new addition is an enzyme called Serrapeptase. Click here to see how this enzyme can help the body remove dead tissue (scar tissue) so new healthy tissue can come in.
Now I know when I say things like this people start to wonder if I am sane. Everyone knows the heart doesn't repair itself after damage, it just becomes enlarged to compensate and over works the good tissue that is left. Right? NO... I have the advantage of knowing cases where supplementation of certain nutrients actually reversed enlarged hearts and where bad electrocardiograms became good ones within 4 to 6 months. There have been many cardiologists in the last few years who have started treating and preventing heart disease as well as Type 2 diabetes, Alzheimers, and Cancer prevention in a whole new way. One recent book just came out that I just read this week. It is called A CARDIOLOGIST'S GUIDE TO ANTI-AGING, ANTIOXIDANTS, and RESVERATROL. The author of this 150 page book is a cardiologist by the name of Dr. Gruss.
Dr. Gruss explains in easy-to-understand language the real causes of chronic illnesses and what you can do to avoid them. Dr. Gruss is concerned that although research scientists have proven the connection between inflammation, oxidation, and chronic diseases, many doctors and their patients simply aren't getting the message. I have recommended programs on my Anti-Aging page that incorporate all that is written in his book.
SPECIAL OFFER...
If you e-mail me at cww@cwiechert.com, and ask me, I will e-mail you free (a $30.00 value) a PDF version of his book. It is a must read for anyone wanting to prevent and reverse chronic disease. If I could have written the book myself I would have made no changes. His information is spot on. And it is backed by all the recent studies I have blogged about in the last few years.
E-mail me today for your copy. It is my gift to all of you. The gift of good health. Forward this offer to anyone you love that may have an interest.
Have a happy holiday season... Now do you see why I am not crazy, at least when it comes to my health advice?

Heart Regenerates After Infarction: First Trials With Mice...
ScienceDaily (Dec. 13, 2008) — Up until today scientists assumed that the adult heart is unable to regenerate. Now, researchers and cardiologists from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch and the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany) have been able to show that this dogma no longer holds true.
Mayo Clinic Proves New Heart Muscle Cells Can Come From Bone Marrow...
ScienceDaily (Mar. 11, 2003) — ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Mayo Clinic researchers have proven for the first time that cells produced by the bone marrow can form new heart-muscle cells in adults, providing an important boost to research that could enable the body to replace heart muscle damaged by heart attack. The findings are now available online and will be published tomorrow in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Damaged heart? Grow around it!...
Researchers are racing to heal injured hearts by using stem cells from outside the heart, and maybe even ones inside it.
An idea that was mere fantasy just a few years ago - growing new tissue to replace damaged or diseased heart muscle - is now one of the hottest areas of on-the-horizon cardiology research. Teams around the world are trying to mend broken hearts by injecting or infusing primitive stem cells or muscle cells into the heart or by rousing the heart to repair itself.
THE SECRET FACTOR...
The key to all of this depends on this...
This study adds a credible piece to the puzzle:Richard T. Lee, M.D., senior author of a study published by the American Heart Association says: "We have been taught for decades that when your heart cells are dead, they are dead and there is nothing we can do about it.We are excited about anything suggesting that we can grow more heart cells."Lee and his colleagues tested 880 bioactive substances – including drugs and vitamins – approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to see if they stimulated the mouse stem cells to become heart muscle cells. The cells were genetically altered to give off a fluorescent bright green color when viewed under a microscope if they had become heart muscle cells."We only got 1 out of the 880 to light up, and that was from ascorbic acid, the chemical commonly known as vitamin C," says Lee, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, and a lecturer in biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

Einstein researchers find that vitamin D may protect against peripheral artery disease...
(BRONX, NY) – People with low vitamin D levels may face an increased risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD), according to researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. The scientists reported their findings at the American Heart Association’s Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Annual Conference 2008.
PAD is a common disease that occurs when arteries in the legs become narrowed by fatty deposits, causing pain and numbness and impairing the ability to walk. PAD affects about eight million Americans and is associated with significant disease and death, according to the American Heart Association.
MYTH: Sunbathing Is Bad for Your Health...
It seems like I've been talking forever about the enormous benefits of increasing your vitamin D levels and sun exposure. Studies over the last seventy years have linked low levels of vitamin D with various health problems including cancer, osteoporosis and osteomalacia in adults (resulting in hip and vertebral fractures), rickets in children, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, hearing loss, high blood pressure, psoriasis, heart disease, and diabetes. As I discussed in the previous section, studies have confirmed that vitamin D and sun exposure can protect against infectious diseases. Yep, you read right, read it again! And you have always heard that sun could could cause cancer - right? Well if you backed yourself like a potato in the sun that is true. All you need is 20 minutes a day, but read on for the full story.
Green Tea Prevents Deathly Plaque Formation In Parkinson's And Alzheimer's - First Results In The Test Tube And With Cell Models...
The substance ECGC (Epigallocatechin-3-gallate) from green tea can redirect the deadly process which leads to the accumulation of protein aggregates in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. EGCG modulates a cascade of protein misfolding in such a way that the formation of deadly plaques is interrupted, and harmless protein structures emerge instead. Researchers of the Max Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch, a national research laboratory of the Helmholtz Association in Germany have made this discovery in the test tube and in cell models.
Researchers Discover That A Protein In Grape Skins Can Kill Cancer Cells...
It's well known that drinking red wine in moderation can have some health benefits, mainly attributed to a compound called resveratrol. Now, scientists at the University of Virginia Health System have discovered how. They found how resveratrol helps to starve cancer cells by inhibiting the action of a key protein that feeds them. The protein, called nuclear factor- kappa B (NF-kB), is found in the nucleus of all cells and activates genes responsible for cell survival. "We used physiologically-relevant doses of resveratrol and found dramatic effects on human cancer cells," said Marty Mayo, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular genetics at U.Va.
Resveratrol Slows Aging in Animal Study...
The polyphenol resveratrol slows aging in mice, according to the results of a new study that confirms the red wine component’s ability to mimic caloric restriction.
Past studies have shown that resveratrol in high doses can extend lifespan in invertebrates and prevent early mortality in mice fed a high-fat diet. In the new study, researchers fed mice either a control diet, a diet that included low-dose resveratrol (4.9 mg kg-1 day-1), or a calorie-restricted diet from the time the animals were middle age to old age.
Solid Tumor Cells Not Killed By Radiation And Chemotherapy Become Stronger...
Because of the way solid tumors adapt the body's machinery to bring themselves more oxygen, chemotherapy and radiation may actually make these tumors stronger. "In a sense, these therapies can make the tumor healthier," said Mark W. Dewhirst, D.V.M., Ph.D., professor of radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center. "Unless the treatment is very effective in killing many if not most tumor cells, you are shooting yourself in the foot."
Epigenetics, you, and 2 generations out... Take 7 minutes and watch this amazing video...
Your diet, or whether you take supplements like B-Complex, vitamin D, zinc, selenium and many other proteins and phytonutirents have an amzing effect on obesity and type 2 diabetes as well as other diseases. The study of Epigenetics explains why diet and proper supplementation are critical to not only our health, but the health of our children, 2 generations out.

Acrylamides From Fried, Grilled Foods Linked to Ovarian Cancer ...
Women who eat approximately one portion of chips a day have twice the chance of developing ovarian or endometrial cancer as women who eat less acrylamide-containing food, according to a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Maastricht, Netherlands, and published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology.
Low-Dose Resveratrol Prevents Cardiac Aging...
Based on the functional analysis of gene-expression profiles in multiple tissues, we postulate that both CR and resveratrol impact pathways that determine chromatin remodeling, perhaps in response to a metabolic stress signal. The ensuing alteration in chromosome architecture and transcription [genetic information transfer from DNA to RNA] may . . . retard some aspects of the aging process in the long term. Understanding the pathways that influence the expression of genes involved in chromatin remodeling and transcription in response to both CR and resveratrol may therefore provide key insights into the molecular basis of aging in mammals. . . . Our studies suggest that dietary consumption of a low dose of resveratrol partially mimics CR and inhibits some aspects of the aging process.
Food Compounds That Kill Test-Tube Cancer Cells Analyzed...
Strawberries, grapes, blueberries and some familiar seasonings like rosemary contain compounds that can—in test tubes—kill cells of a childhood cancer. Nutrition-focused research by molecular biologist Susan J. Zunino of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC), Davis, Calif., may reveal exactly how the powerful plant chemicals fight the disease known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Cocoa flavanols may boost blood flow in the brain...
Flavanol-rich chocolate may boost blood flow in the brain and reduce the risk of dementia and stroke, Boston-based researchers have reported. The research, supported by confectionary giant Mars, extends previous studies linking consumption of flavanol-rich cocoa products to improved cardiovascular health.
How Fatty Foods Curb Hunger...
Fatty foods may not be the healthiest diet choice, but those rich in unsaturated fats – such as avocados, nuts and olive oil – have been found to play a pivotal role in sending this important message to your brain: stop eating, you're full.
Four Ways Milk Causes Acne ...
We all know the advertisements where celebrities sport the milk mustache and ask `Got Milk?`. However studies suggest that a more accurate question would be: `Got milk? Got acne?` This article explores how hormones and allergenic proteins in milk could contribute to acne.At least three large-scale studies reported in the American Journal of Dermatology found a link between drinking milk and acne. NaturalNews reported about a study that found those who drank two or three glasses of milk a day had 44% higher chance of developing severe acne.
Could heart-healthy pistachios be the new pomegranate?...
Pistachio growers in the US are hoping that as another study emerges highlighting the health benefits of pistachios, the nuts may gain the kind of consumer recognition pomegranates have achieved in recent years. According to research carried out at Penn State University and presented this week at the American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition conference in Chicago, pistachios significantly reduce inflammation at a cellular level – a recognised risk factor for heart disease – as well as reducing cholesterol and blood pressure.

If you have amalgam fillings, or have ever had amalgam fillings, this Blog is directed to you and is a must read...
Amalgam fillings are a cheap way to fill cavities and have been used since I was born, at least 57 years ago. I know because I had some put in when I was a child. We have now come to understand that they can cause mercury poisoning which over time can create lots of health issue. In fact I believe my trip to the dentist 6 years ago that created my heart issues was compounded by the fact that my amalgams were removed, and bacteria as well as mercury was allowed to go into my blood stream and did damage to my mitral valve that created cardiac arrhythmia, or AFIB. Dentists are now recommending antibiotics and are safely removing amalgams, understanding just how important it is.
There is a patient who had severe mitral valve prolapse. A 35-year old banker who could not walk more than 20 metres without getting cyanosed, blue from lack of oxygen. Five cardiologists and surgeons suggested open heart surgery immediately. He decided against the surgery and went to the DaVinci Clinic in Cyrus to see Dr. George Gorgiou. A central part of the pathology was severe mercury toxicity of the heart tissues - he had 14 amalgams removed that were poisoning him in the process which caused severe mitral valve prolapse.
With the correct treatment not only did this man survive but nearly a year later he is now wind surfing 12 miles in competitions and came first two weeks ago in a race with two others. He is working a full life etc. The patient actually has registered with the Guiness Book of Records as being the only man on this planet who has completely healed of severe mitral valve prolapse without open-heart surgery. Dr. Georgiou is a naturopathic doctor whose speciality is chelation of heavy metals. His program includes Chlorella and other modalities.
While dentists don't all agree on whether amalgams are safe or not, they are required to treat them as hazardous waste when they are removed from teeth, so you be the judge.
VIDEO - FDA sounds the alarm on Amalgam Mercury Fillings.
Smokers also tend to have high cadmium and arsenic levels as well as other heavy metals and they can also be gotten for municipal water supplies and wells.
And, all of have as much as 1000 times the levels of lead in our bones due to lead contamination from the air we breath to lead paint we may have been exposed to.
According to Scientific American, physicians for decades have grappled with ways to block further tissue damage in patients who suffer heart attacks and are effected by mercury poisoning. They have tried everything from drugs to cell therapy—all with little luck. But promising new research indicates that a biogel made from seaweed may have the healing powers that have thus far eluded them.
Some of the principle healing agents in seaweed are magnesium, iodine, and selenium.
Dr. B. West says, “Iodine supplementation may be the missing link in a good percentage of heart arrhythmia cases, especially atrial fibrillation. The body needs adequate stores of iodine for the heart to beat smoothly. After close to a year now of using Iodine Fulfillment Therapy, I can attest to this fact. Most of the stubborn cases of cardiac arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation that we were unable to completely correct with our cardiac protocols have now been resolved with adequate supplies of iodine added to the protocol.”
Please take a few minutes and view the information and videos below. If you suspect that you might have symptoms of metal toxicity, many health practitioners recommend removing amalgams and replacing them with gold crowns or other non toxic options and then taking a program to chelate out heavy metals from your tissues.
Iodine, selenium and magnesium from seaweed and chlorella as well as EDTA, all have the ability to chelate mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic, as it does other inorganic toxic trace minerals. They can together even remove Percolate, the halogen like rocket fuel polluting half of North America.
Scientific Studies Concerning Mercury Dental Fillings
Prepared by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology
www.iaomt.org
1. Mercury is a very toxic substance-- more toxic than lead, cadmium, or arsenic.
2. At least seventeen separate studies have confirmed that dental patients absorb a daily dose of mercury derived from their mercury fillings. Mercury is not rendered chemically inert in dental fillings.
3. On average, eighty percent of the mercury inhaled into the lungs is absorbed into the bloodstream.
4. The general population in America absorbs more mercury from dental fillings than from any other source. Studies demonstrate that two-thirds of the mercury absorbed by non-occupationally exposed populations is derived from amalgam fillings.
5. The mercury absorbed from dental fillings exceeds published government toxic thresholds for mercury.
6. A specific no-observed-effect level (NOEL) cannot be established, meaning that no level can be established at which mercury does not adversely affect the body.
7. Peer-reviewed studies have established that adverse health affects have been associated with mercury vapor derived from amalgam fillings.
8. Mercury is transferred from a mother to her fetus during pregnancy and is transferred post-natally through breast milk.
9. The developing fetus and young children are disproportionately affected by mercury exposure, because many aspects of development, particularly brain maturation, can be disturbed by the presence of mercury.
10. Mercury derived from mercury fillings may impair kidney function.
11. Mercury has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease.
12. Mercury has been linked to Parkinson’s Disease.
13. Mercury released from dental "silver" fillings provokes an increase in mercury and antibiotic resistant bacteria in oral and intestinal flora.
14. Animal studies demonstrate that exposure to mercury vapor can induce
autoimmunity.
17. IAOMT's science contributed to Germany's ban on mercury fillings for women and children.
18. Mercury vapor released by fillings is routinely measured in dentists' offices.
19. There is more mercury in dental fillings than in all other products sold in America.
20. The U.S. government has never tested mercury fillings for safety.
