Are we destined to fall victim to our genetic weaknesses?

With application of nutrigenomics, my specialty, it is my belief that optimal health can be achieved and many, if not most, disease states can be reversed.
It begins by adopting a hunter - gatherer diet that matches our genetics.  Grains and dairy have only been eaten for 6,000 to 10,000 years of human development.  This way of eating is naturally low glycemicly and removes the foods that we have the most trouble with, namely dairy, refined oils, sugar, corn syrup, HFCS and grains, breads, and cereals.  It is plant based with moderate animal protein and nuts.  Some people who are not gluten intolerant can genetically tolerate a Mediterranean type diet that adds whole grains.  If you are one, I especially like whole rye and barley as these trigger and up-regulate genes that favor optimal health.

Here is just one example of a study that shows nutrigenomics at work with diet.

"Researchers from Finland took two groups of people with metabolic syndrome and gave each group a different diet.  The diet differed in what type of carbohydrates they consumed for the 12 week study.  The rest of their diet was identical.  They contained the same calories and the same amount of fat, protein, carbohydrate, and fiber.  The first group had wheat, oats, and potatoes as the source of their carbs. The second group ate rye as their source of carbohydrate.  Rye has some very special properties. It is slowly absorbed by the body and has phytonutrients that help you lose weight and improve metabolism.  After the 12 weeks, the researchers took a fat sample and analyzed it to find out which genes were turned on or off.  So what happened?  In the wheat, oat, and potato group, 62 genes were activated that increased inflammation, oxidative stress and the stress response, worsened blood sugar balance, and generally amplified all of the forces in the body that lead to obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease!  No good genes were turned on.  In the rye group, 71 genes were turned on that prevent diabetes, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and improve blood sugar control.  In both cases, the genes that were turned on and off were 100% effective."

I could offer many more examples, but I think you get the idea.  Now with just 3 supplements added to a diet like this we can switch on survival, anti-inflammatory, anti-fribrotic, immune modulating genes, remove calcium from soft tissues and direct that calcium to the bones, and turn on your own body's production of 3 metabolic enzymes; Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD), Catalase, and Glutathione Peroxidase.
SOD and CAT are increased by 40% in just 15 days and 55% in 90 days, with GP increased by 300%.
In all, over 3,000 genes are turned on or off in positive ways with no negative side effects.

The 3 supplements are Protandim, D3, and K2.  And the beauty is, just 3 pills a day with breakfast!  Wow.

The research on diet and these supplements is so new that most people are not aware of them, so here are a few videos that will offer the reason and the science behind them.  If you calculate the statistics with these nutrients, based on peer reviewed studies, it suggests a possible 75% to 100% reduction in your chances of getting or dying from cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and would positively effect over 200 diseases.
What adopting the Ideal Diet does for you:

What Protandim does:

K2 prevents cardiovascular disease, removes calcium from infiltrating in soft tissues and improves bone health:

On top of these supplements and diet, one more thing I recommend adding IF YOU are willing, is at least 3 grams of fish oil, high in Omega 3’s EPA/DHA, or 1 gram of Krill oil.
These nutraceuticals have been shown to provide a 50% to 80% reduction in sudden cardiac deaths and provides added protection against breast, prostate, and colon cancers..
I believe in prevention and I am convinced that a program like the one I describe above is a breakthrough in preventative health care.  Always consult a doctor or health care specialist before starting a natural health care program.

Know the truth about optimal vitamin D levels...

The following was released today by the Vitamin D Council: You all need to read it.

After 13 years of silence, the quasi governmental agency, the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) Food and Nutrition Board (FNB), yesterday recommended that a three - pound premature infant can take virtually the same amount of vitamin D as a 300 pound pregnant woman. While that 400 IU/day dose is close to adequate for infants, 600 IU/day in pregnant women will do nothing to help the three childhood epidemics most closely associated with gestational and early childhood vitamin D deficiencies: asthma, auto-immune disorders, and, as recently reported in the largest pediatric journal in the world, autism (1). Professor Bruce Hollis of the Medical University of South Carolina has shown pregnant and lactating women need at least 5,000 IU/day, not 600.
The FNB also reported that vitamin D toxicity might occur at an intake of 10,000 IU/day (250 micrograms), although they could produce no reproducible evidence that 10,000 IU/day has ever caused toxicity in humans and only one poorly conducted study indicating 20,000 IU/day may cause mild elevations in serum calcium but not clinical toxicity.
Viewed with different measure, this FNB report recommends that an infant should take 10 micrograms/day (400 IU) and the pregnant women 15 micrograms/day (600 IU). As a single 30 minutes dose of summer sunshine gives adults more than 10,000 IU (250 micrograms), the FNB is apparently also warning that natural vitamin D input – as occurred from the sun before the widespread use of sunscreen – is dangerous. That is, the FNB is implying that God does not know what she is doing.
Disturbingly, this FNB committee focused on bone health, just like they did 14 years ago. They ignored the thousands of studies from the last ten years that showed higher doses of vitamin D helps: heart health, brain health, breast health, prostate health, pancreatic health, muscle health, nerve health, eye health, immune health, colon health, liver health, mood health, skin health, and especially fetal health. Tens of millions of pregnant women and their breast-feeding infants are severely vitamin D deficient, resulting in a great increase in the medieval disease, rickets. The FNB report seems to reason that if so many pregnant women have low vitamin D blood levels then it must be OK because such low levels are so common. However, such circular logic simply represents the cave man existence of most modern day pregnant women.
Hence, if you want to optimize your vitamin D levels – not just optimize the bone effect – supplementing is crucial. But it is almost impossible to significantly raise your vitamin D levels when supplementing at only 600 IU/day (15 micrograms). Pregnant women taking 400 IU/day have the same blood levels as pregnant women not taking vitamin D; that is, 400 IU is a meaninglessly small dose for pregnant women. Even taking 2,000 IU/day of vitamin D will only increase the vitamin D levels of most pregnant women by about 10 points, depending mainly on their weight. Professor Bruce Hollis has shown that 2,000 IU/day does not raise vitamin D to healthy or natural levels in either pregnant or lactating women. Therefore supplementing with higher amounts -- like 5000 IU/day -- is crucial for those women who want their fetus to enjoy optimal vitamin D levels, and the future health benefits that go along with it.
For example, taking only two of the hundreds of recently published studies, Professor Urashima and colleagues in Japan gave 1,200 IU/day of vitamin D3 for six months to Japanese 10 year-olds in a randomized controlled trial. They found vitamin D dramatically reduced the incidence of influenza A as well as the episodes of asthma attacks in the treated kids while the placebo group was not so fortunate. If Dr. Urashima had followed the newest FNB recommendations, it is unlikely that 400 IU/day treatment arm would have done much of anything and some of the treated young teenagers may have come to serious harm without the vitamin D. Likewise, a randomized controlled prevention trial of adults by Professor Joan Lappe and colleagues at Creighton University, which showed dramatic improvements in the health of internal organs, used more than twice the FNB's new adult recommendations.
Finally, the FNB committee consulted with 14 vitamin D experts and – after reading these 14 different reports – the FNB decided to suppress their reports. Many of these 14 consultants are either famous vitamin D researchers, like Professor Robert Heaney at Creighton, or in the case of Professor Walter Willett at Harvard, the single best-known nutritionist in the world. So, the FNB will not tell us what Professors Heaney and Willett thought of their new report? Why not? Yesterday, the Vitamin D Council directed our attorney to file a federal Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the IOM's FNB for the release of these 14 reports.
I, my family, most of my friends, hundreds of patients, and thousands of readers of the Vitamin D Council newsletter, have been taking 5,000 IU/day for up to eight years. Not only have they reported no significant side-effects, indeed, they have reported greatly improved health in multiple organ systems. My advice: especially for pregnant women, continue taking 5,000 IU/day until your (OH)D] is between 50 ng/ml and 80 ng/ml (the vitamin D blood levels obtained by humans who live and work in the sun and the mid-point of the current reference ranges at all American laboratories). Gestational vitamin D deficiency is not only associated with rickets, but a significantly increased risk of neonatal pneumonia (2), a doubled risk for preeclampsia (3), a tripled risk for gestational diabetes (4), and a quadrupled risk for primary cesarean section (5).
Yesterday, the FNB failed millions of pregnant women whose as yet unborn babies will pay the price. Let us hope the FNB will comply with the spirit of "transparency" by quickly responding to our freedom of Information requests.

A recent study shown below implicates oxidative stress and inflammation to bone loss...

Those of you who have followed my recommendation to optimize your D3 levels with at least 5,000 IU’s a day of D3 and who are taking Protandim, which contains green tea extract, as well as 4 other herbs, are already benefiting from these results.
Oxidative stress has been linked to over 200 diseases. Controlling this area of health has been my goal for over 30 years. Now that we have the product that can do it I am devoting most of my attention and energy toward sharing this breakthrough to people who are sick and or want to control aging and disease prevention.
cw
Green tea polyphenols combined with a form of vitamin D called alfacalcidol could boost bone structure and strength, according to a new study in mice.
The mixture may reverse damage to bones caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced chronic inflammation, which could in turn reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
Chronic inflammation causes bone loss through oxidative stress and excessive production of pro-inflammatory molecules.
According to NutraIngredients:
"The researchers reported that both extracted green tea polyphenols and alfacalcidol supplementations reversed LPS-induced changes in bone structure, whilst a combination of both was shown to sustain bone micro-architecture and strength."

Learn how to deal with the biggest health issue we all face - Chronic Inflammation

You may not think of chronic inflammation when dealing with your particular health issue, but it is always involved to some degree. Everything from allergies to Alzheimer's, psoriasis to pancreatitis and cancer to cardiovascular disease.

If you have any painful health problem like arthritis, crohn's or fibromyalgia, these all have inflammation as there main culprit and if you control chronic inflammation, you for the most part control these health problems.

As we age we don't handle this natural process as well, and it becomes more and more of an issue. The good news you can test for chronic inflammation and deal with it naturally, very successfully.

A blood test for C-Reactive Protein can be ordered from your doctor. People with high CRP levels can be 3 times more likely to die from a fatal heart attack, or to develop diabetes or cancer. Once you know your number, your goal is to get it as close to normal as possible.

Statin drugs work by controlling inflammation, and can be very effective, but they can have nasty side affects. That's why I favor nutraceuticals when ever possible.

The first step in controlling chronic inflammation is to change your diet. I like the Hunter/Gatherer and or the Mediterranean Diets. Both of these are anti-inflammatory by nature, but you have to experiment with them both to see which one your genes prefer. You must get off of vegetable oils and use EVO instead. Vegetable oils are high in omega 6 fatty acids and are pro-inflammatory. While I used to recommend cold water fish a few times a week to get omega 3's, I cannot any more because of the heavy metal contaminates we are finding in them these days. The average American diet has a 20 to 1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3's and it should be closer to a 1 to1 ratio. The American diet is very PRO-INFLAMMATORY.

The next biggest inflammation antagonist is sugar and or a high glycemic diet. Learn how to eat a low glycemic diet, and never go back.

Today I am sharing a couple of great articles and studies on chronic inflammation and the best nutraceuticals to deal with them, naturally.

The miracle of vitamin K2 on bone and cardiovascular health...

For over 5 years now Healthblogger has been a leader in bringing you cutting edge research on preventative health concepts using the power of dietary changes and specific nutraceuticals.

This week I am focusing on new information on just how powerful vitamin K2 is on bone health and preventing cardiovascular disease. If K2 were a drug it would be one of the most prescribed drugs on earth. It's great news that it is just a vitamin that can be found in certain foods, but even more powerful when taken as a supplement.

In one of these videos, Dr. Leon Schurgers tells us of a study that shows for every 10 mcgs of K2 ingested in the body, there was a 10% reduction in cardiovascular disease. 100 mcgs a day would effectively mean 0 cardiovascular disease could be possible. WOW...

I have also included a Fat Attack seminar that will interest anyone who wants to lose body fat, why diet sodas make you fat, and much, much more.

Enjoy this week's information and remember, it's never too late to become younger.

Feel great and deal with stress with Adaptagenic herbs...

Why should you consider taking an adaptogenic herb or herbal formula? The best reason is that adaptogens can increase a person's ability to perform physical and mental tasks as well as helping them hold up under any kind of stress.

According to Wikipedia: The term adaptogen is used by herbalists to refer to a natural herb product that is proposed to increase the body's resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety, and fatigue. In the past, they have been called rejuvenating herbs, qi tonics, rasayanas, or restoratives. All adaptogens contain antioxidants, but antioxidants are not necessarily adaptogens and that is not proposed to be their primary mode of action.
The concept of adaptogens dates back thousands of years to ancient India and China, but modern study did not begin until the late 1940s.

Three of the best studied today are Eleuthero, also in the past called Siberian Ginseng, Rhodiola Rosea, and Schizandra Berries.

In a ten-year long study in Russia workers were given Eleuthero. The workers reported a 30% to 50% decrease in influenza and reduced their absences from work due to sickness and disability by 20 to 30%. Studies of Rhodiola Rosea demonstrated an increase of secretion of the hormone b-endorphon. This hormone is used to reduce the hormonal response to stress.

Today I am devoting my blog to 3 adaptogens.

Enjoy today's information and be sure to check out the resources I have tested, use personally, and prefer as a health professional.

Adaptogens act as regulators or modulators in either direction. Balancing the body's energy and immunity means if there is not enough, more will be created. If there is too much, it will be diminished.

Discover the Secrets of Anti-Aging Adaptogenic Herbs, Part II
There are several adaptogenic herbs from traditional Chinese medicine that can be used as tonics safely and economically to maintain youthful vigor and health. Because virtually everyone can benefit, the Reishi mushroom will be discussed briefly in this in this article after a quick summary of Part I.

"The doctor of the future will prescribe no drugs, but will interest his patients in the care and nutrition of the human frame and in the cause and prevention of disease." - Thomas Edison

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Turn on good genes by changing your diet and adding powerful phytonutrients.

For over 30 years I have been teaching clients the importance of dietary change and nutritional supplements in preventing and, in many cases, reversing chronic disease.

It wasn't until recently, maybe the last 10 years, that we understood that these powerful changes were due to turning good genes on and bad genes off.
This has been referred to as Gene Expression, or in the case of nutritional changes, Nutrigenomics.

I use and teach natural ways to deal with pain and inflammation, protection from the sun from burning without dangerous sunscreens, and have demonstrated reversal of type 2 diabetes in 30 days using only dietary change, in my blogs.

Today I am sharing just a few of these concepts from medical practitioners from around the world.

Share these with the ones you love and help me make more people aware of alternative ways to improve our health and well being.

Dr. Dean Ornish: Your genes are not your fate (2008) ... VIDEO
Dean Ornish, MD, is the founder, president, and director of the non-profit Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, where he holds the Safeway Chair. He is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ornish received his medical training from the Baylor College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts General Hospital. For the past 28 years, Dr. Ornish has directed clinical research demonstrating, for the first time, that comprehensive lifestyle changes may begin to reverse even severe coronary heart disease, without drugs or surgery.

Nutrigenomics explains omega-3’s immune health benefits...
Omega-3-rich fish oil beneficially affects gene expression, says a new nutrigenomic study that enhances our understanding of the health benefits of omega-3.
The study is said to be the first to show that DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) can affect gene expression to a more anti-atherogenic and anti-inflammatory status.
Lead researcher Lydia Afman told NutraIngredients: “The most exciting finding of this study is the demonstration of less pro-inflammatory gene expression profiles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) after a 6 months fish oil intervention in a healthy elderly population.”

Dr. Dean Ornish: The world now eats (and dies) like Americans... VIDEO
Stop wringing your hands over AIDS, cancer, and the avian flu. Cardiovascular disease kills more people than everything else combined -- and it's mostly preventable. Dr. Dean Ornish explains how changing our eating habits will save lives.

Pycnogenol pine bark extract shown to protect diabetics from swelling, circulation and vision problems...
A research study conducted by G D'Annunzio University in Italy evaluated the benefits of a popular form of pine bark extract in helping diabetics. Published in the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, findings revealed that people with diabetes can avoid developing retinopathy and maintain proper micro-circulation by supplementing with pine bark.

Green tea blocks lung cancer...
Drinking at least a cup of green tea a day may significantly decrease a person's risk of lung cancer, according to a study conducted by researchers from Shan Medical University in Taiwan.

New Evidence That Chili Pepper Ingredient Fights Fat...
Scientists are reporting new evidence that capsaicin, the stuff that gives chili peppers their kick, may cause weight loss and fight fat buildup by triggering certain beneficial protein changes in the body. Their study, which could lead to new treatments for obesity, appears in ACS' monthly Journal of Proteome Research.

84% of sunscreen products are harmful to health, says alarming EWG study...
For 29 years, the FDA has refused to publish safety standards for sunscreen products. That's nearly three decades of keeping the public in the dark about the extremely harmful, cancer-causing chemicals found in sunscreen products. Any idea why the Food and Drug Administration has taken so long to set safety standards for a product used by over 100 million Americans? If you guessed, "Because the greedy corporations selling the toxic sunscreen products don't want the FDA to study the safety of their products," give yourself a gold star sticker. You got it! The FDA has no interest in protecting the public from cancer-causing personal care products, and that simple fact is made abundantly clear by the FDA's 29-year delay to establish basic safety guidelines.

Why Antidepressants Do Not Work for Treating Depression... VIDEO
Antidepressants do not work. In this weeks UltraWellness podcast, Dr. Mark Hyman shares recently uncovered studies that show these drugs are not effective - and gives you a step-by-step plan for treating depression by addressing its root causes.

Does Drinking Diet Soda Make You Fat? VIDEO
When is a diet drink not a diet drink? When it is made with artificial sweeteners. In this week's UltraWellness podcast, Dr. Mark Hyman shares exciting new research that sheds light on the stunning link between artificial sweeteners and weight gain.

IP-6 is a Super Nutrient...
With advancing age the human body harbors parasites, accumulates cellular debris, fats, and metallic minerals. In the later years of life accumulated iron and calcium cause tissues in the body to rust and calcify. The liver stores iron. The gall bladder and kidneys develop calcium and iron stones. Heart valves and arteries calcify and become clogged with cholesterol. The brain, retina, and heart amass lipofuscin (ly-po-fusk-in) pigments. Parasites such as H. pylori (bacteria), Candida albicans (yeast), hepatitis, and herpes viruses thrive as the human body begins to store extra iron with advancing age.
The question is how to reverse all of these aging and disease factors. Alternative medicine practitioners often suggest detoxification, liver cleansing, or chelation therapy to remove these elements from tissues. But such efforts are often over-promoted, poorly researched, expensive, or sometimes ineffective. There is a simple, economical, and effective way of ridding the body of all of these undesirable organisms, debris, and metals with advancing age — IP6 rice bran extract.

New research: flavonoid quercetin fights viral infections, protects against chronic lung diseases...
Asthma, cystic fibrosis (CF), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are serious and even life-threatening conditions. However, these health problems share something with a usually minor infection -- the common cold. The connection? Rhinovirus (RV), a single-stranded RNA virus from the picornaviridae family, causes the majority of colds and RV is also known to trigger exacerbations of CF, asthma and COPD.

Do you take medications? Make sure they are worth it.

I have no problem with people taking medications. As long as they evaluate the risk-reward ratio of the drug in question, and the known side effects, to make sure they are worth taking. Many times a client will come to me and have symptoms, that when evaluated, are coming from a reaction to a particular drug they are taking.
The first thing I recommend is that they ask their doctor to re-evaluate the risk reward benefits and see if something else can be done to fix that reaction.

If you try natural things to correct a health issue, that in reality is a side effect of a drug you are taking, you are wasting your time.

Try this experiment. When was the last time you looked at the risk-reward benefits of the drugs you are taking?

Here is what to do. Click on this link, type in your medication and read what it does, and what the potential side effects of taking it are.

If you have any of those issues listed, talk with your doctor about alternatives.

Nobody cares more about your health than YOU do, so TAKE CHARGE OF IT.

Enjoy this week's articles, studies, and videos and remember...

In Sixteen States and Counting: Drugs Kill More People than Auto Accidents...
For years, the predominant cause of injury-related deaths in the United States has been traffic accidents. However, recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) indicates that 16 states now see more drug-related deaths than any other type of injury-related death and that number is rapidly growing. Some of the key findings in the report include a more than tripling of opioid analgesic-induced deaths between 1999 and 2006. In 2006, roughly 40 percent of all poisoning deaths were caused by opioid analgesics. In the 35 to 54 age group, these drugs are the leading cause of death overall in the United States. Fatal opioid analgesic-related overdose poisonings represent the fastest increasing segment of overall deaths caused by poisonings.

New Study: Vitamin D Doubles Colon Cancer Survival Rates...
One of the most deadly cancers in the United States is colon cancer. The Center for Disease Control has recently reported that in 2005, roughly 141,400 Americans received a diagnosis of colon cancer. The CDC also reported that 53,000 of those patients died the same year. It is believed that colon cancer can be completely prevented with various lifestyle adaptations. One of those crucial adaptations is increased amounts of vitamin D. A recent study shows that optimizing vitamin D has the ability to improve survival rates even of individuals that have already contracted the disease. That information has not been widely publicized, but the results of this study can be added to the volumes of studies that indicate that vitamin D produces incredible protection against a huge variety of cancers.

The Benefits of Fish Oil: VIDEO...
Omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs) are polyunsaturated "good" fats found in oil from coldwater fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna, or in seeds of flax, walnuts, hemp, and other plants. They're classified as "essential" because your body needs them for complete health yet cannot produce them on its own. They must be obtained through diet or supplementation. Omega-3 EFAs play an important part in cardiovascular wellness by helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and heartbeat. Omega-3 EFAs may also contribute to neurological, or brain, health. Because omega-3 EFAs can be converted into anti-inflammatory substances (prostaglandins and leukotrines), they're also believed to provide joint support, promoting flexibility, mobility, and potential pain relief.

Link Examined Between Omega-3 Fatty Acid Levels and Biological Aging Marker in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease...
Patients with coronary heart disease who had higher omega-3 fatty acid blood levels had an associated lower rate of shortening of telomere length, a chromosome marker of biological aging, raising the possibility that these fatty acids may protect against cellular aging, according to a study in the January 20 issue of JAMA. Several studies have shown increased survival rates among individuals with high dietary intake of marine omega-3 fatty acids and established cardiovascular disease.

Promising Probiotic Treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease...
Bacteria that produce compounds to reduce inflammation and strengthen host defenses could be used to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Such probiotic microbes could be the most successful treatment for IBD to date, as explained in a review published in the February issue of the Journal of Medical Microbiology.

What are Probiotics ?... VIDEO
Probiotics are friendly bacteria that help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics may also help promote good digestion, optimal nutrient absorbance from food, healthy immune function, and colon regularity.

Dietary Formula That Maintains Youthful Function Into Old Age...
Researchers at McMaster University have developed a cocktail of ingredients that forestalls major aspects of the aging process. The study found that a complex dietary supplement powerfully offsets this key symptom of ageing in old mice by increasing the activity of the cellular furnaces that supply energy -- or mitochondria -- and by reducing emissions from these furnaces -- or free radicals -- that are thought to be the basic cause of ageing itself.

Look and Feel Younger by Avoiding the Top Contributors to Aging, Part I...
In a general sense, premature aging means that outwardly the way you appear is older than it should be for your age, and inwardly the way you feel and the way your brain, bones, and the rest of your body functions is below par to what it should be for your age. Your appearance is inextricably linked to your "inside" health, of course, as is how long and how well you live. Therefore, taking the necessary steps to avoid premature aging is a crucial goal.

When it comes to staying well, we have alternatives...

We have a lot of options today when it comes to keeping ourselves well. I think changing our thinking is the most important thing we can do. Begin with the end in mind. What do you want your life to look like 10, 20, 30 years down the road?

If looking younger and feeling better is your ultimate goal, then plan for that outcome now!

Begin by changing your diet. I recommend The Ideal Diet as the best way to stay young and have the least amount of inflammation.
If you need more than that, try nutraceuticals, or a natural supplement that works with your body to help maintain ideal health. And when and if you need to use medications, but at least see if their use has more benefits than it does detriments. Always evaluate the risk vs the reward, then follow that course.

Discuss these options with your personal physician, but ultimately, you need to make the final choice.
It's your body, it's your health.

This week I have listed a few videos and studies that will help you make the right choice.

Remember, it is never too late to become younger...

Pesticides Cause Parkinson's Disease...
A new study just found that Parkinson's disease is linked to pesticide exposure. In fact, the study participants were almost twice as likely to have been exposed to pesticides through their work, and exposure to certain pesticides may have increased the chance of having the disease by more than three-fold. The study looked only at pesticide exposure from work environments and didn't look at pesticides used in home pest control, backyard gardening or our foods.

Vitamin D may improve colorectal cancer survival...
Higher blood levels of vitamin D may double survival rates of colorectal cancer patients, suggests a new study from Harvard researchers.
People with the highest average levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-(OH)D) – the non-active storage form of the vitamin – had a cancer-specific mortality half that of people with the lowest average levels, says a new study published in the British Journal of Cancer.
Furthermore, high levels of the vitamin were associated with an overall mortality level 40 per cent lower than people with the lowest average levels, state the Boston-based researchers led by Prof Kimmie Ng, from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

How One Form of Natural Vitamin E Protects Brain After Stroke...
Blocking the function of an enzyme in the brain with a specific kind of vitamin E can prevent nerve cells from dying after a stroke, new research suggests.
In a study using mouse brain cells, scientists found that the tocotrienol form of vitamin E, an alternative to the popular drugstore supplement, stopped the enzyme from releasing fatty acids that eventually kill neurons.

Vitamin D Promotes Weight Loss...
A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Minnesota found that overweight people have better success in losing weight when their vitamin D levels are increased. Dr. Shalamar Sibley, the researcher who headed the study, placed 38 obese men and women on a diet program and discovered that those whose vitamin D levels were increased lost up to a half pound more than those who followed the diet plan only.

RDA for Vitamin C is 10% of USDA Standard for Guinea Pigs...
Are You Healthier than a Lab Animal? The US RDA for vitamin C for humans is only 10% of the government's vitamin C standards for Guinea pigs.
Wait a minute; that cannot possibly be true. Can it?
The US Department of Agriculture states that "the Guinea pig's vitamin C requirement is 10-15 mg per day under normal conditions and 15-25 mg per day if pregnant, lactating, or growing." (1) Well, that sounds reasonable. But how much is that compared to humans? An adult guinea pig weighs about one kilogram (2.2 pounds). Guinea pigs therefore need between 10 and 25 milligrams of C per kilogram. In the US, an average human weighs (at least) 82 kg (180 lbs). (2) That means the USDA's standards, if fairly applied to us, would set our vitamin C requirement somewhere between 820 mg and 2,000 mg vitamin C per day.

Continuous Chest Compression CPR - Mayo Clinic Presentation...
Mayo Clinic Presentation of Continuous Chest Compression CPR - Cardiocerebral Resuscitation (CCR) is a new approach to patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest that has been shown to improve rates of neurologically intact survival by 250%--300% over the approach advocated by the 2000 American Heart Association guidelines. And EMS systems can realize these improvements without having to buy a single new gadget or device.

Food Allergies - Are They Making You Fat?...
Your digestive system may be making you fat. Its hard to believe but very true! In this weeks UltraWellness blog Dr. Mark Hyman will explain why foods you are sensitive to can cause weight gain and a host of health problems. Simply eliminating them from your diet is the answer, and Dr. Hyman will tell you how to do that.

Optician cures his own blindness with herbal medicine made with marigolds...
A retired optician says he has cured his own case of age-related blindness by self-medicating with a supplement containing a marigold derivative. "I decided to this off my own back," said 73-year-old Harry Marsland. "I treated myself, which is the very thing you're not supposed to do in any profession. As a retired professional, I feel a responsibility to get this message across to as many people as possible."

This website may present views diametrically opposed to the views of such organizations. I also offer resources to products I formulate as well as those that I believe are of high value and quality. Profits from these recommendations are used to keep HealthBlogger free to those who read and appreciate the time and research that goes into these posts. It has been my experience over the last 30 years that if I offer reports and research without product recommendations, you will most likely pay more at the local health food store, and may not get the right product or the quality you would expect. I only recommend companies I respect and order from myself. I consider this a value added service that I offer along with the research. If you find this a conflict of interest, please don't order from my links.
