Has science found the Fountain of Youth... You will have to be the judge, but I am not waiting, and neither are other scientists and researchers. We are acting NOW!!!
Glaxo Smith Kline, a very large pharmaceutical company recently bought Sirtris Pharmaceuticals for $720 million, or $22.50 a share. Why should I care you ask? Well, Sirtris is a biopharmaceutical company that's developing drugs to target a class of enzymes called sirtuins. Its SIRT-501, which is in early-stage development, is an enhanced formulation of resveratrol (the healthful agent found in red wine) that targets one of those enzymes, SIRT1. Why were they bought? Because what they discovered may be the closest thing to the fountain of youth ever found and explains why the french could eat a diet high in fats associated with heart disease and yet show amazing resistance to it. I am not waiting for their drug and neither are the scientists that discovered this compound. I am taking the natural form of resveratrol that is available in concentrated form right now, and in a form that I feel will always be superior to any drug they will patent.
Sirtris feels they have found the possible cure for diseases that are associated with aging... diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's, obesity and osteoporosis.
Watch this video to see why they are excited and you will understand why they were bought out for so much money this year.
The average life span of Americans is about 78 years. Some people live much longer and don't seem to do it with any special help from diet. Is it possible that they have a gene turned on that promotes longevity, while some of us don't? It makes sense and I believe as do the scientists that created Sirtris, that we can turn this longevity gene on with daily supplementation of resveratrol.
The current research is very overwhelming. While I respect the work of these scientists to bring this compound to market as a drug, I do not think it is the best approach. Why make it a drug? If they isolate the exact molecule, they can patent it and have exclusive rights to the drug at very high prices for at least 6 years. The natural compound that I take is already available, but cannot be patented. It also has other phytonutrients that many biochemists feel are equally needed for achieving the anti-aging benefits it creates like grape skin polyphenols, found in red wine. Concentration the the key. To really get benefits like the ones they are getting, you would have to drink hundreds of glasses of red wine daily.
I have included below all the Blogs I have done this year on resveratrol and my other favorite anti-aging compounds like Green Tea Ext, Grape Seed Extract, Vitamin D3 and Alpha Lipoic Acid and L-Carnitine.
Share this information with everyone you love who values their health.

Too good to be true? You be the judge...
Could the right diet along with supplementation possibly take 20 years off the biological age of your brain, make middle aged cells function much younger, improve memory & cognitive performance, double your energy and dramatically reduce your chances of getting cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and neurological conditions?
Too good to be true... If research done on mice extends to humans, which we feel it does, then perhaps yes... In fact, recent studies on humans have already been done with amazing results.
Life extension is a hot topic these days, with baby boomers aging and wanting to stay active and young. More than life extension, health span is what most of us really want. The ability to live a long life with comparatively good health and vigor, free from degenerative disease, until very near death. Researchers say the best way to accomplish that has everything to do with diet, exercise, healthy lifestyle habits and micro nutrient intake.
I recommend what I call The Ideal Diet, which is a diet that mimics what our ancestors ate and is anti-inflammatory in nature. In addition to that diet, I take a powerful combination of the nutrients discussed below everyday for nutritional insurance. Take some time and read the following studies.
Today I have highlighted RESVERATROL, as just one of the compounds I have focused on in the last few years.
Prevention is so much cheaper than treatment, and a by product of this protection is, quality of life.

Vitamin D could save your life...
If by now you haven't increased your levels of vitamin D3, you haven't been paying attention to me, or the media. Epigenetics has a profound effect on healing and stopping the disease process. The way vitamin D works is by turning good genes on and bad genes off. This is Epigenetic Nutritional Control at work, and it is just one of many nutrients and phytonutrients that have the power to do this.
Your thinking process is the most powerful epigenetic controlling tool you have, are you using it? It starts with you seeing the need to make changes and then incorporating those changes into your daily life.
Based on my research and the research of the top scientists in the country today, you may really want to consider taking 1,000 to 2,000 IU's for children and 2,000 to 5,000 IU's for adults everyday and perhaps 10,000 IU's if you have very low vitamin D blood scores and or are dealing with extreme health issues. At this time, the scientific consensus is that optimal vitamin D levels are 40 to 60 ng/mL. Consult with your doctor first, but the levels above are considered within the safe levels and it could have a profound improvement in your health now and in the future.

Children at Risk From Current Low Vitamin D Recommendations ...
Proponents of using nutrition, supplements and other natural means to obtain and keep optimum health have long warned that the FDA approved minimum daily allowance of some vitamins is woefully inadequate. Now new research backs up that idea when it comes to vitamin D in children. In fact, according to a report set for July publication in The Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), children may need and safely take ten times the 200 International Units (IUs) of vitamin D currently recommended by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. This fact could have long-term importance for youngsters because the new research reveals such an increase in vitamin D could improve the bone health of children worldwide -- and it may have other life-long health benefits, too.

Vitamin D and calcium influence cell death in the colon, researchers find...
Researchers at Emory University are learning how vitamins and minerals in the diet can stimulate or prevent the appearance of colon cancer.
Emory investigators will present their findings on biological markers that could influence colon cancer risk in three abstracts at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in San Diego.
In a clinical study of 92 patients, supplementing diet with calcium and vitamin D appeared to increase the levels of a protein called Bax that controls programmed cell death in the colon. More Bax might be pushing pre-cancerous cells into programmed cell death, says Emory researcher Veronika Fedirko, who will present her team's results (abstract 464).
Previous studies have shown that calcium and vitamin D tend to reduce colon cancer risk.

Prostates protected by vitamin D: study...
The benefits of vitamin D for prostates may be due to the action of the vitamin on a specific gene, suggests new research that deepens our understanding of how nutrients and genes interact.
Researchers from the University of Rochester Medical Center report that the active form of vitamin D in the body, 1,25-hydroxylvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D), may link with a gene known as G6PD, which releases an antioxidant enzyme and protect DNA from damage.
"Many epidemiological studies have suggested the beneficial properties of vitamin D," said lead researcher Yi-Fen Lee. "Our findings reflect what we see in those studies and demonstrate that vitamin D not only can be used as a therapy for prostate cancer, it can prevent prostate cancer from happening."

Why I bombard you with studies effecting your health, every week...
The brain processes 400 Billion bits of information a second, but we filter out all but 2000 bits of information per second and accept that into our awareness at that moment. The information you let in is about your environment, your body and about time. The process is pretty self serving. It's all about you at that moment or what is important to you right then. If you have your eye on a danish, you most likely will ignore my Blog on why grains and sugar aren't good for you.
The part of the brain that does this in the Reticular Activator. It’s a little part of your brain that focuses in on the things you tell your mind to pay attention to. It’s your mind’s filtering mechanism. When you consciously (or subconsciously) think about things, it’s your reticular activator that filters out examples of what you’re thinking about and brings them to the front of your conscious.
This is your reticular activator at work. It can not only help filter in, but it can filter out as well.
What do you allow in?... that which you are comfortable with, based on your experiences that you have had since you were born. You in fact become what you think about most. I am trying to capture a few of your brain cells and get you comfortable in making changes, you would not feel important, without superior knowledge. I hope you don't delete these or let them get removed by spam, but either way, I will keep sending them. It is human nature not to pay attention to things until they become important. With health, that is usually after you LOSE it.
My goal is to change that paradigm, if you let me.
Enjoy this weeks articles and studies...
Good health to you all...

Higher Coffee Consumption Associated With Lower Liver Cancer Risk...
A new large, prospective population-based study confirms an inverse relationship between coffee consumption and liver cancer risk. The study also found that higher levels of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) in the blood were associated with an increased risk of developing the disease. The researchers noted a significant inverse association between coffee drinking and the risk of primary liver cancer. They found that the multivariable hazards ratio of liver cancer dropped for each group that drank more coffee. It fell from 1.00, to .66, to .44, to .38 to .32 respectively. “The biological mechanisms behind the association of coffee consumption with the risk of liver cancer are not known,” the authors point out.

Coffee habit may be good for your heart...
Long-term coffee drinking does not appear to increase a person's risk of early death and may cut a person's chances of dying from heart disease, according to a study published on Monday.
Previous studies have given a mixed picture of health effects from coffee, finding a variety of benefits and some drawbacks from the popular drink. The new study looked at people who drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee.

Black tea may speed up recovery from stress...
Drinking black tea could reduce stress hormone levels and help ease the burden of heart disease, says the first randomized clinical trial into the effects of the beverage on stress. "Drinking tea has traditionally been associated with stress relief, and many people believe that drinking tea helps them relax after facing the stresses of everyday life," said Steptoe. "However, scientific evidence for the relaxing properties of tea is quite limited. This is one of the first studies to assess tea in a double-blind placebo controlled design."

Study With Smokers Shows Vitamins Combine For Benefits...
A new study has found that supplements of vitamin C can largely stop the serious depletion of vitamin E that occurs in smokers, demonstrating for the first time in humans a remarkable interaction between these two antioxidants as they work together.
The results of the research were based on a placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study with smokers and non-smokers, and showed that supplements of 1000 milligrams of vitamin C per day could reduce by up to 45 percent the rate of disappearance of one form of vitamin E in smokers. In general, vitamin C supplements helped protect the function and plasma levels of vitamin E, so that smokers who took supplements had about the same level of antioxidant protection as non-smokers.

Vitamin D Cuts Risk of Colon Cancer Death by 72 Percent ...
People with higher levels of vitamin D in their bodies are 72 percent less likely to die from colorectal cancer, according to a new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Colorectal cancer kills approximately 50,000 people in the United States per year.Researchers tracked the health status of 16,818 people in a nationwide government health survey. Participants joined between the years of 1988 and 1994 and were followed until the year 2000. Their blood was measured regularly to determine their bodies' levels of vitamin D. Those with higher levels of vitamin D at the beginning of the study were 72 percent less likely to die from colorectal cancer than those who began the study with the lowest levels of the nutrient.

Vitamin C-rich diet may slash diabetes risk...
Increased blood levels of vitamin C may reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 62 per cent, says a new study from Cambridge. The strong independent association observed in this prospective study, together with biological plausibility, provides persuasive evidence of a beneficial effect of vitamin C and fruit and vegetable intake on diabetes risk,” wrote lead author Anne-Helen Harding from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, England.
An estimated 19 million people are affected by diabetes in the EU 25, equal to four per cent of the total population. This figure is projected to increase to 26 million by 2030.

8 Drugs Doctors Would Never Take...
If they won't use these medications, why should you?
With 3,480 pages of fine print, the Physicians' Desk Reference (a.k.a. PDR) is not a quick read. That's because it contains every iota of information on more than 4,000 prescription medications. Heck, the PDR is medication — a humongous sleeping pill.
Doctors count on this compendium to help them make smart prescribing decisions — in other words, to choose drugs that will solve their patients' medical problems without creating new ones. Unfortunately, it seems some doctors rarely pull the PDR off the shelf. Or if they do crack it open, they don't stay versed on emerging research that may suddenly make a once-trusted treatment one to avoid. Worst case: You swallow something that has no business being inside your body.
Of course, plenty of M.D.'s do know which prescription and over-the-counter drugs are duds, dangers, or both. So we asked them, "Which medications would you skip?" Their list is your second opinion. If you're on any of these meds, talk to your doctor. Maybe he or she will finally open that big red book with all the dust on it.

" The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." Albert Einstein
