My people perish from lack of knowledge...

Taking responsibility for our health is not always easy. Protecting our children from wrong habits may be the most difficult thing we as parents are accountable for.

For the last few years there have been many studies that have suggested that Alzheimer's disease may in fact be involved with hyper insulinemia, which causes glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. What if we could take one simple step as parents to greatly reduce our children's chances, as well as our own, of developing alzheimer's disease, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. What if we could prevent ourselves and our children from ending up on drugs that have nasty side effects, and we end up only taking because of our lack of knowledge and concern about the things we are purchasing at the store.

Consuming soda drinks with high fructose corn syrup and or high sugar, as well as energy drinks that have high caffeine and sugar as there primary ingredient, has profound effects on your health now and later. Are you aware that kids are not only gaining weight these days, but they are getting type 2 diabetes before their teens and are now being prescribed drugs for cholesterol control. Did you know that these children may end up developing heart disease and or strokes, by the time they get into their mid 30's.
What are we doing to ourselves and our children?

Knowledge is the key.

Please read these studies and take charge of not only your health, but the health of your children.... Talk with them and share information like what I have on the Blog. Let them know you care and it matters.

Good health to you all...

Sugary Drink Consumption Linked to Alzheimer's Disease ...
High consumption of sugary beverages may increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study conducted by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Researchers took mice that were genetically predisposed to develop Alzheimer's-like symptoms as adults, and added a 10 percent sugar water solution to the diet of half of them. After 25 weeks, the mice fed the sugar water had gained 17 percent more weight than the other mice. Unlike the other mice, they had also developed insulin resistance and had higher cholesterol.

Overweight Children Show Increased Risk of Heart Attacks, Strokes ...
Epidemic obesity among children today will lead to a surge in the occurrence of premature heart attacks in strokes as those children age, according to two studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In the first study, researchers from the University of California at San Francisco and Columbia University used computer modeling to predict the likely effects of obesity in children. The study concluded that obese children are 19 percent more likely to die from heart disease, beginning when they hit age 35.

Study shows 150 percent jump in statin use...
Use of cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins rose by 156 percent between 2000 and 2005, with spending jumping from $7.7 billion to $19.7 billion, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported on Wednesday.
"The number of people purchasing statins nearly doubled when comparing 2000 and 2005, rising from 15.8 million people to 29.7 million people," the AHRQ report reads.

The Coming Epidemic Of Type 2 Diabetes In Young Adults...
How will the epidemic of childhood obesity today affect the future health of Americans? As concern about children’s health grows along with their waistlines, medical experts fear that the childhood obesity epidemic could lead to large numbers of younger adults developing type 2 diabetes, causing serious and lasting health complications for future generations of Americans.
In a new article, University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital pediatric endocrinologist Joyce Lee, M.D., M.P.H, warns that the most damaging effects of childhood obesity have yet to surface, and will likely result in an epidemic of type 2 diabetes among young adults, leading to a greater number of diabetes complications, and ultimately, lower life expectancy.
