Why yogurt is a poor way to add culture to your GI tract and much, much more...

While this week's blog does not have any earth shattering study or article like last week's COPD reversal information, I do have a few gems. We all know that young girls are smarter than young boys during early child development and some women might argue that never changes. I will not comment on that, but one study below shows how EPA and DHA from consuming fish, or better yet concentrated fish oil, can dramatically increase teen age boys combined intelligence scores.

Also my favorite pharmacist Suzy Cohen, tells us why yogurt is not the best way to add probiotic cultures to our diet and some gross reasons why you might want to avoid them, altogether. She recommends supplements over yogurt as I have for many years.

As many of you know I have been working on research for Heart Failure and complications leading to that condition for over 6 years, after I got Bacterial Endocarditis, which damaged my valves and caused an enlarged heart. I have eliminated all 3 drugs that were recommended to me, which had awful side effects and have reversed A-FIB (abnormal heart rhythm) using alternative natural supplements. Included below is a study that shows 2 such amino acids that can restore heartbeats to normal. I use them both. One of the drugs recommended to me was a Beta-Blocker, which made me very lethargic and caused ED. I have included one study below that suggests that was a very good idea.

Enjoy this week's studies and articles and remember...

You are never too old to become younger.

What are Probiotics... Video
Probiotics are friendly bacteria that help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics may also help promote good digestion, optimal nutrient absorbance from food, healthy immune function and colon regularity.

Common Irregular Heartbeats are Completely Normalized by Taurine and Arginine...
(NaturalNews) Irregular heartbeats, technically known as cardiac arrhythmias, put more than 850,000 people in the hospital every year in the U.S. That number is expected to increase as the population ages. Many others are treated on an outpatient basis for frightening erratic heartbeats that can feel like the heart is doing flutters and flip-flops. Drugs are often prescribed but don't always work, and patients are started down a path that can end up with heart surgery. The good news is that recent research has identified two natural, easily obtained substances that can restore heartbeats to normal.

Your Oral Health Is Connected To Your Overall Health...
Scientists at the 87th General Session of the International Association for Dental Research, convening today in Miami Beach, report new studies on the connection between oral disease and systemic disease. A recurring theme is the relationship between periodontal (gum) disease and infant prematurity, diabetes, or stroke.

Metabolic Typing Explains Why Different People Need Different Diets...
(NaturalNews) Ever wonder why the diet and supplements your friend is taking works wonders for him/her, but not for you? Ever wonder which experts are right: those who promote high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diets or those who promote high carbohydrate, low fat diets? Ever wonder how one bestselling book says one thing about nutrition, and the other best seller says just the opposite? The reason comes from the fact that everyone has a different metabolic type.

Multivitamins In Pregnancy Reduce Risk Of Low Birth Weights...
Prenatal multivitamin supplements are associated with a significantly reduced risk of babies with a low birth weight compared with prenatal iron-folic acid supplementation, found a new study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ).

The Fabulous Five: Compounds Found Most Effective Against Cancer...
(NaturalNews) Research is rapidly identifying the compounds from plants that are most effective against cancer. Among those that are proving to be the front line of defense against an initial diagnosis of cancer and to prevent recurrence are DIM, curcumin, EGCG, genistein, and I3C. Each has its own unique actions, and when taken together in small amounts they are much more powerful than taking a large amount of only one or two. Each is readily available in supplement form.

Vitamin D Deficiency Causes Multiple Sclerosis in Children...
(NaturalNews) Children who develop multiple sclerosis have substantially lower levels of vitamin D than children who do not develop the disease, according to a series of studies presented at an international conference on multiple sclerosis in Montreal. Multiple sclerosis is a degenerative disease of the nervous system in which the myelin sheath that insulates nerve cells breaks down, leading to problems in the transmission of nervous signals. Symptoms can range from tingling and numbness to tremors, paralysis or blindness. An estimated 2.5 million people around the world suffer from the disease, which is rarely diagnosed before the age of 15.

Beta-Blocker Drugs Cause 400 Percent Increase in Heart Attacks...
NaturalNews) Surgical patients who are given blood pressure drugs known as beta-blockers around the time of surgery are four times more likely to suffer heart attacks and death than patients who are not given such drugs, according to a study conducted by researchers from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston Health Care System and published in the journal Archives of Surgery. Because many surgeries place patients at an increased risk of heart problems, it has become standard procedure among many doctors to give all surgical patients beta-blockers before surgery, regardless of whether they have pre-existing blood pressure problems or not.

Sunlight, Vitamin D & Cancer... Video
We often associate getting too much sun with getting cancer. But, is not getting enough sun even more harmful? A new study reveals a surprising relationship between sunlight, vitamin D, and cancer.

Review Identifies Dietary Factors Associated With Heart Disease Risk...
A review of previously published studies suggests that vegetable and nut intake and a Mediterranean dietary pattern appear to be associated with a lower risk for heart disease, according to a report published in the April 13 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. However, intake of trans-fatty acids and foods with a high glycemic index may be harmful to heart health.

Sunflower Seeds are Answer from Nature to Antidepressant Drugs...
Sunflowers are the earthly representation of the sun. They have such an affinity for the life giving force that they twist on their stems so their faces can bask in sunlight all through the day. Photons from the sun are stored in the DNA of the sunflower, making its seed resonate with the photons in human cells. This resonance is good for mind as well as body, and makes sunflowers one of the top foods for fighting depression.

Fish Oils Boost Intelligence Scores of Teenage Boys...
NaturalNews) Teenage boys who eat fish regularly score higher on intelligence tests than those who eat fish less often, according to a study conducted by researchers from Goteborg University in Sweden and published in the journal Ars Pediatrica.
On average, those who ate fish once per week had combined intelligence scores 7 percent higher than those who ate fish less than once a week, while those who ate fish twice or more a week scored 12 percent higher. Those in the once-a-week group also scored 7 percent higher on visuospatial intelligence and 4 percent higher on verbal intelligence, while those who ate fish more than once a week scored 11 percent and 9 percent higher, respectively.
