Vitamin D in the news, are you paying attention?

I have set up my computer to search the entire world for any research in the areas of new nutritional science that can be applied now to reduce our chances of getting chronic diseases like, cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, etc. Every day I get the newest studies that will not be applied to training texts of doctors and health professional for perhaps 10 to 20 years or never, as unlike drugs, food supplements cannot be patented. As I get these studies, I make sure that all my supplements are state of the art in supplying any and all of these important nutrients in therapeutic levels.
Enjoy these 2 articles showing support for additional vitamin D3 in your diet.

Vitamin D may curb type 2 diabetes risk ...
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - During a 17-year follow-up of roughly 4,000 men and women, researchers found that individuals with higher blood levels of vitamin D had a 40 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those with lower levels of this vitamin. During follow-up, 187 people developed type 2 diabetes. After adjusting for age, sex, and month when blood samples were obtained, a statistically significant inverse association was observed between the blood vitamin D level and the development of type 2 diabetes. People with the highest vitamin D levels had a 40 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes as those with the lowest vitamin D levels. Knekt and colleagues report in the journal Diabetes Care.

Vitamin D lowers endometrial cancer risk...
SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. researchers, using data on worldwide cancer incidence, linked vitamin D deficiency to increased risk of endometrial cancer. Cedric F. Garland of Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego, says the research team has shown associations between higher levels of vitamin D and lower risk of breast, colon, kidney and ovarian cancers."This is the first study, to our knowledge, to show that higher serum levels of vitamin D are associated with reduced risk of endometrial cancer," Garland said in a statement. "Previous epidemiological studies have focused on estrogen levels -- either natural or through hormone replacement therapy -- which play the major role in development of the disease, and on fat intake, which plays a smaller role. Since most women cannot control their natural levels of estrogen, and very low levels of fat intake are not acceptable to most American women, this article provides evidence that vitamin D adequacy should be considered as part of a comprehensive program for prevention of this cancer."
